When checking fluid levels, and doing my (what I call) Pretrip on my TC21D, I'm bit confused about the power steering fluid. In the manual the power steering fliud is a bit hard to understand. Is the power steering ran with the Hydraulic fliud? Or is there a seperate dipstick? Also what is the oil fill on the axle? Mine is on the left side of the front axle and is yellow. Is there something that need to be checked there also? Please forgive a newer tractor owner who has little mechanical experience. Just want to make sure evrything stays working well. Thanks

Kent - the Power steering system on a TC21 is seperate from the transmission, rear axle, hydraulic (TRH) system.

The power steering system works from a reservoir mounted just above & behind the engine fan. The dipstick for this system is mounted on the top of this reservoir (it's on page 3-14 of my operator's manual). This system level is to be checked every 50 hours, and the oil is to be chaged every 600 hours.

The TRH system uses the rear axle housing as it's reservoir, and it's level is checked with the dipstick located just in front of and under the seat. Add oil is filled through the hole just above the 3ph center link. (page 3-12). This system's level is to be checked daily, the oil should be changed at the first 50hrs service, and changed every 300 hours thereafter.

The yellow plug on your front wheel drive axle to check and add oil to the front axle (page 3-30). This level should be checked every 50 hours, and the oil should be changed every 300 hours.

The overview of the maintenance schedule is found on page 3-2 of the operator's manual. Natually, if you see or smell oil leaking/puddling/burning, one should check all of these fluid levels more frequently.

Good luck!

Steve

Thanks Steve, I see I was looking at the wrong figure. I was looking at figure 3-19 instead of 3-21. You did a great job of explaining that to me. I'm grateful for you taking the time to help. Kent
