Price Check Question about price of a used TC40

My Mistake, I have an "A", no "D", as in 12X12, not Hydro.
My point is the same though, getting the Hydro bumps up the other options too.

You may want to bounce this off of someone with more experience on the relevant models, but since you've used a 1920... I've been told a 1920 falls right between the TC35 and TC40 performance/power wise. The specs might say a TC35 edges out the 1920, but folks who've used them seem to say it's the other way around (the 1920 has a 4 cylinder engine, 33.3 HP @ 2500 RPM. TC35 = 3 cyl, 35 HP @ 2600 RPM. TC40 4 cyl, 40 HP @2600). They all also weigh within 100 pounds or so of each other. Wheelbase on the TC35/40 (73.5") is just a few inches longer than a 1920 (70")

Robert, I am uniquely UN-qualified to make comments about the power required for the manure spreader. I think the TC40 will pull it, but maybe not at the speed you want. Do you normally pull that spreader with a TN? Do you have the manufacturer's recommendations on the spreader? Isn't 177 bushels of manure at least two tons?

Anyhow, I think the tractor is worth what the guy is asking, but I really don't know if it will perform satisfactorily.

Specs call for 40 hp to pull that spreader. We use a David Brown 990 to pull it right now. I don't think we are going to get this TC even though it seems like a good deal. There is another member who lives near by who is interested and I told him he could pursue it. I am sure I will find a used TN some day.

It's really too bad you can't at least try the TC to see how it handles the spreader. You mentioned the short wheelbase, and I thought about how with my TC, going fairly fast on rough terrain causes the loader to bounce around a lot.

When I mow, I take the loader off because I don't think it's good to let if flop around. It also lets me get into much tighter spots with the loader off. I think you'd either have to put up with the loader bouncing around or put some suitcase weights on the front. You could also take the bucket off and just leave the loader arms out front.

With the longer wheelbase of the TN and the added weight, it's bound to be a lot more comfortable on less than perfect terrain. Too bad you can't find a 2120. The added weight would surely make that a better choice for the spreader.

. . . and that's still a heck of a deal on that TC. I'd love to have a gear model to go along with my hydro. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It is hard to find 2120's around here. They are in high demand and just like the 1920, they don't sit around long when they are for sale. I was trying to find a 2120 when I was contacted by a fellow TBN member about the 1920 I now own and was only 20 miles away. The TN or 30 series would fit well with the spreader and the haybine but they tend to live harder lives then a compact so I never know how much abuse they have had when buying used.

As for bouncing, loader or no loader a short wheel base tractor is going to bounce a lot in a field which is annoying but you get use to it. I use the 1920 to rake with and every now and then I regret the decision to use the 1920 instead of the TN. I have thought about getting a compact with Galaxy turfs on it to see if they would absorb some of the impact while raking but then it would be useless for anything else unless I changed tires every time I wanted to change jobs. Our 640 has a lot of bounce as well because it is a short wheel base but being 2wd, the front tires have more give then a tiny FWA tire so it doesn't bounce as much as the 1920. But then the only thing the 640 is used for is to rake when the 1920 is elsewhere and the TN is hooked to the baler.
