I have a Kubota L3940 tractor and I'm getting a grapple for it. I need to add remotes to the tractor as I currently have none. I have a loader and I have a power beyond loop for connecting my BH90 backhoe. I'm thinking that the PB loop will make it easy to add 2 solenoid valves simply by inserting the valve manifold in the hydraulic loop. The hydraulic loop is plumbed with 1/2 inch hose. My GPM is about 10 and when I look at specs for D03 valves it shows around a 10+ GPM flow but talks about pressure rise when in neutral and I wonder if I should step up to D05 valves and manifold. I'm not really concerned about flow through the work port but concerned about a flow restriction in the loop. The cost difference is small and neither valve can be feathered, their function will be the same. I'm unsure how I should proceed.

Is D03 manifold and valves large enough or should I use D05 stuff?

I figured I would be using a needle valve to slow the action of the grapple down.

Also I'm curious about a Northman solenoid valve that has "soft shift", does anyone know what it is and if it would be worthwhile to have on my tractor.

Thanks for your feedback...

The DO3 should be good enough.

The grapple does not need to be extremely fast.

What is the price difference compared to a regular valve?

Found this.

soft shift option is designed to extend response time and as a result, minimize hydraulic shock in the system when shifting a valve or unloading a main stage valve.

When using soft shift solenoids, it is recommended that inlet flow be routed to port one. If port one is routed to tank, then a check valve is required to keep the oil from draining out of the solenoid tube. (Please note that oil must be maintained in the solenoid tube for the soft shift effect to occur.)

Please note that soft shift solenoid operated cartridges operate at a reduced capacity when compared with the standard versions.

Since this is a series circuit the D03 would add significant pressure drop / heat to your system. Tandem center spools are one of the worst spools for pressure drop.

Depends on who's soft shift valve it is and how they are made. Some have adjustable shift speed and some are fixed. You may be better off getting a stack or sandwich valve to put between your directional valve and the subplate. This reduces plumbing and leak points.

thanks for the info...
I ordered a D03 manifold but no valves yet.
My plan at this point is to get it plumbed and the manifold mounted then order the valves.

Thanks again.
