JD 5103
Hey guys, new member but long time lurker. I have a problem that I cannot solve so I'm turning to the internet in hopes of an answer. A few months back I picked up a 2003 JD 5103. It belonged to an older gentleman that bought it new and only put 101 hours on it.

For whatever reason the cover to the fuse box is missing and I'd like to buy a new one. Now you would think that this would be an easy fix, but it appears whoever assembled my tractor was a little drunk that day as the fuse box on my tractor is definitely not the one that John Deere claims should be on my tractor. The parts catalog shows PN SU289992, which I order and did not fit.

So I'm hoping someone else out there has the same fuse box and would be willing to check out the cover for a part number or maybe a photo of the correct box. I know it is a long shot that the cover will have a part number molded in it, but if I new what the proper cover looked like it may help me track down which tractor model this box actually came on.

Here are some photos of the fuse box on my tractor.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Dilema...
Being that tractor was assembled in India, that may have something to do with the box cover.
I'd visit the Deere dealer and ask them to run the serial number for the records they have on this tractor.
Don't think anyone was drunk on the line, but suspect the model either had trouble and a box was replaced or maybe an early model that later had an assembly line change.
The records should show the changes, IMO.

I found a different fuse box cover for a 5103E but have no idea if it will fit your tractor. This cover is held on with a screw on each end. R177338

I have a 2005 5103, bought new. It did not have a fuse box cover, do not believe it came with one.

Beenthere - I'll check again with the JD dealer. I provided the serial number last time I was there bit it is hard to say if they actually ran the serial number or just used the model number to look up the parts.

Tex Jim - I'll check that part number out and see if it looks like it might work.

Deerefan - Interesting. Given the use and abuse most tractors receive at some point in their lives I assumed JD would have wanted to protect the fuse box. Especially since it is right near your feet. Well that might explain why I don't have one. Thanks for mentioning that.

I appreciate the responses. I'll check with the dealer again and see what I can dig up.

Well the dealer didn't have much to say based on my serial number, however the gentleman at the counter did say that is was not uncommon for those tractors (and others of that size and age) to come without a cover. Not only did they not come with a cover, but the fuse box is not even designed to accept one. I think you may have nailed it deerfan. It seems strange to leave the fuse box open like that. Especially on a cabless tractor that is exposed to the elements.

I agree, not a good design at all. Asking for corrosion and other problems. So far, mine has been ok.
