I bought a quick hitch today (speeco) at Farm & Fleet for $150.00. It looks good but I haven’t put it on yet. Looking at the instructions I discover that I have to put “mounting pins” on each implement that I will use the quick hitch on. They go on the lower pins on the implement and a pair is needed for each implement to be used with the quick hitch. Are all quick hitches like that in that you need these special pins? I’m not sure how much a pair costs? Probably not a big deal but an inconvenience at least.

I think the manual means the standard pin you already have on all your implements. I don't think you have to buy anything.

I have the same quick hitch. You will need to buy adapters for each piece of quipment. This is a pain in the beginning, but once they are on the equipment it makes it so much easier to hook up.

Is it a Cat 2 quick hitch or something? I got Pat's quick hitch system, and it just grabs right onto the pins that are already on the implements.

So, is there any advantage to the Speeco system over Pat’s system?

I see advantages to Pat’s system, for example you can use pretty much an piece of equipment regardless of pin width, and don’t see any down side to it, am I missing something?

It looks like the Speeco system has limitations with the width of the pins on the equipment that you will be using and the necessity to purchase and install adapters on each piece of equipment. Probably not a big deal unless you may have the opportunity to borrow equipment from others or loan it out to them. Compared to Pat’s system it seems like a nuisance without any real benefit.
With the adapters at $15 plus shipping, per implement, I get to a cost break even point with about three additional implements.

Looks like I’ll return the Speeco system and order the Pat’s system.

Thanks for your help.

I have one of those, I used on my L4400 but my problem with it is when using a bush hog, or a finish mower, the drive shaft hits the underside of the hitch!! I solved the bushing problems by buying small hitch pins, the ones with the bail to latch them, so I could interchange the bushings when I changed the implement.

Now I have Pat's quick hitch, and that seems much better...

I have the same problem with the new SpeeCo hitch I just bought so I too am returning it and buying the Pat's Easy Change hitch

I spoke with the 3 pt implement buyer/product manager at TSC's head office in Nashville. He told me that TSC is trying to get all their vendors to subscribe to the ASAE standard. He suggested my problem is with the other implements and not the SpeeCo hitch. Unfortunately that doesn't help my situation so I returned the SpeeCo hitch yesterday.

The TSC buyer told me that they will have a TSC branded quick hitch in their stores within 90 days or so-if all goes well. I am planning on buying this hitch that will accomodate my existing implements as well as the new ones I buy.
