Tractor
tc40 NH/turf tires
Hello all- Well the dealer called today and said the tc40 I ordered was in- I have a few questions.
First off- I ordered 1 rear remote-I thought I read it here first to get it when the purchase was made so as to save money in case I wanted one later- Doing this I assumed this would be done at the NH factory-(the tractor was being built new) so do the dealers always install everything else? including the FEL? I also assumed I would be getting the loader put on at the factory also.(I was told the frame is done at the factory but the arms and bucket are done at the dealer)
Which brings me to my next question- this might sound odd but I have a thing about when buying new I'd like to get it new-The Fel and bucket were taken off of a tractor at the dealer and put onto mine- this has been sitting on the lot all summer- I really didn't want my loader to have been rained on-(specifically the exposed inner shaft) and I just built a part off of the back of my garage to house the tractor- to keep the rain off of it.
how much does rain and weather affect the steel shaft thats exposed?..ive seen hydraulic systems like backhoes and fel set ups that have only sat for a week get rust pock marks on the steel.
I had also noticed one of the joysticks on a tractor at the dealer looked a bit rusted and sun faded...I know the tractor is going to look like it should -I'll be miffed if the FEL set up doesn't match.
I am suppose to fill out the paperwork friday and take delivery. It's hard for me to stand up and make demands-
What should I expect as a new purchaser?
any comments would be appreciated. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It's common for the extra parts to be put on by the dealer.

I understand your other issues, don't have a good response. I can see both sides of this.

The 'steel rod' is the cylinder shaft. Many are chromed & one year outside won't hurt - only after many years will the chrome wear down & steel exposes. But check it out, you don't want one with pits.

I've never seen a cylinder pit in 1 week.
I've seen some set for many years and not pit.
Lots of farm and construction equipment set out their entire life and don't have problems.
U could question the dealer about if they have a new FEL there and they could switch it easily.
I haven't seen a NH crate but most of the attachments are in open crates so even new ones are out in the weather.
U should be comfortable w/ the deal and machine.

Tharn, your dealer probably ordered a "loader ready" tractor and it comes with the front remotes, joystick, and sub-frame installed at the factory. Installation of the remote valves and plumbing is something the dealer does. Your dealer probably has several loaders on his lot. I've seen as many as 20 loaders at my dealer (an assortment of sizes). It's like a rotary cutter or boxblade, just an accessory to the tractor. My tractor is not kept inside and there is no damage or deterioration of the loader or hydraulic rams. I guess I might compare the loader to a car or truck that sits on the dealer's lot for several months. Would you expect that dealer to put on new tires or wheels at the time of purchase? We all want our tractors to look good, but I don't think we can expect our dealers to maintain a fleet of demo tractors outside and keep the rest inside out of the weather. As long as the loader shows no signs of being a used loader (paint scratched/scraped and loose pivot pins), I think you should accept that it is new.

This may be a new post subject, but since Jinman mentioned it......

What is the life expectancy of the loader pivot pins for a 16LA style loader? I'm just curious. With heavy use, is it an every couple of years thing ? What do you look for as an indication of a need for replacement ?? I assume the bucket pins would wear faster than some of the others ??

Pivot pin wear depends on how long and in what type of material the loader is used. Greasing schedule may also come into consideration.

First, congratulations on your new tractor! I love mine and think you will too.

To add to the rain comments:

I've seen Boomers being delivered on the highways from the factory: They are delivered on open, flat-bed tractor-trailers. Every dealer I saw stored his inventory outside. Obviously, the tractor is best kept out of the rain, but a few rains on it are not going to hurt it for the long term. Also, the loader is the first thing that is going to get scratched, nicked, dinged, and scraped. Just delivering and assembling them seems to take a few chips off the paint. The inventoried ones are probably just fine.

Good luck, have fun, be safe, and post some pics on delivery!

Mark

PS I always tried to keep my tractor inside until after the blizzard when it got incredibly muddy. I left it outside and the rainstorm afterwards really cleaned it up. Now, I sometimes purposely leave it outside to get a "bath" if a "gully-washer" is predicted /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I agree. I work at a road construction company, and our heavy equipment is outside 365 days a year. The move onto a job and work, then move to the next job... even when sitting in the yard.. no cover.. and all these machines have exposed hyd rods. Only time we ever have leaks, etc, is when someone damages the rod.. like bangs / bends it, or gouges it, etc.

As a matter of fact, most Nh tractors with power steering, unless parked with the front wheels turned all the way to the right, will have a portion of the rod exposed.

Thanks For all the replies.
I know a little rain isn't too much of a problem at first but I was thinking of the non use and sitting in the elements on the exposed shaft- the hydraulic oil wouldn't get to the part thats exposed if the loader was not being used-I think this is what happened to the equipment of the dealer closest to me- I swear the back hoe attachment (langagri) had many pock marks and he said he only had it for a month-It was fully extended so there was almost 3 1/2 feet of exposed shaft. He also told me that starts happening within a week-unless he was lying about it being new?-Also alot of his loader buckets had rust on them too-one reason I went looking at different tractors. could the longagri tractors be using inferior steel?

we did have more rain up here in ohio for a summer than ever before. I wouldn't expect the bucket to start rusting until it had a little use and scratched up a bit, though.
For us Northerners- Rust seems to have the upperhand at all times. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Maybe I should clarify: I'm strictly talking about the chrome shaft-not the tractor itself- I know the tractor can take it. If the hydraulic shaft looks pocked up being new then something has to be wrong. remember this wasn't on a NH where I saw this- I'll try and get some pics for you if i can do it discretly enough..hehe.

- I'm very happy to have chosen a NH (glad they have the 2.9% fin. going on)- I will attach some pics when I get it.

At the JD dealership the Loaders come on wood pallets with no covering on them. We install the loader mounting frames and the DSCV comes installed from the factory. We sometimes install the rear scvs and some are installed at the factory. I always order my tractors and attachments from the factory because I too hate things that have been sitting outside all summer. Right now I have my 4300 on the lot trying to sell and it pains me to see it sitting outside every time I go to work.
