Probable no real place to place this question so, its here.
I had a lightning strike possible that took out my garage door opener board. The door can open and thats it. it doesn't want to reverse. Its the board as the stop switches are working.
My question is reference to the motor, I was considering using just the motor and a switch if possible.
Meaning there are three wires to the motor. Does anyone know if this motor is dc , is would be reversible ?without the control board?
I'm not interested in it stopping by itself or the safety reverse part. Just spinning the motor and reduction part to open and close.Id use a momentary switch
Thanks.

Are you asking if the motor is dc current ?? I don't know about the different brands. But, my motor is ac current

Bedlam, your board may not be shot, check the photocells at the bottom corners of the door as they are prone to getting zapped by voltage surges. If one or both of the photocells are out the opener will still open the door but not allow it to close. It would help to know what type of opener you have, the vast majority are AC and are single speed. If the door begins its travel slowly, picks up speed during the middle of its travel, and then slows as it reaches the end of its travel, the motor is most likely DC. As for using the board to control the motor I think it would be more trouble than its worth because the board incorporates the safeties, the limits and in many cases the receiver...hope this helps, Rick

Lightning hit my house, took out the computers, pump saver on well and one of the garage door openers. Its a Geni, I took the cover off and the board was smoked. I bought a new board from a garage door guy for 40 bucks. Everything is good now with the exception of the top corner of the parapet on my Southwest style home is still blown off.

Bedlam, if the two green lights are on on your photocells are on you can check to see if they are working by obstructing the one sensor lens and see if one or the other lights go out. If that is the case then my guess is that the board is shot. Im not sure but you should be able to pick up a new board fairly cheap, just make sure that you get the replacement board that has the same color buttons as the board you have now as some are green, some red and some purple. The boards are easy to swap but if you need any help let me know, Rick

You may be in luck. I just replaced my MIL's opener last night. It was a 1/2 HP unit and I'm pretty sure it was a Liftmaster. I'll take a look tonight and get the model number off of it. The board is good, it was the plastic gears that were worn out.

I checked and the unit I have is a Chamberlain/Liftmaster. It's a model# 1255R and the part# on the circuit board is 41A5021-1D.

If this will work on your unit let me know and I'll pull the board and rear cover and send it to you.
