I bought a JCB midi cx TLB last year and have generally been pleased with it. The rear hydraulic connections for the detachable subframe backhoe have two half inch skidsteer style quick connects and what appears to be a smaller 1/4" or 3/8" quick connect. When you have the backhoe on, all three are connected. When you take the backhoe off and put the 3 point on, you reroute one of the 1/2" couplers and the smaller 1/4" coupler to some hookups on the cylinder that raises and lowers the 3pt and leave the other 1/2" coupler disconnected.

This all works fine, but my friend has a 3pt wood splitter I'd like to borrow and I'm a little unsure how best to proceed. I took his Case style couplers off the splitter and put a male and female 1/2" skidsteer coupler on in their stead but after thinking about it decided I better ask someone more knowledgable than I if this would work - which leads me to my questions:

1. Is it likely that the two half inch lines are the main circuit? I hope so, because the smaller 1/4" or 3/8" connector seems to be harder to find and the one that is on the backhoe is crimped on I think. It would seem if that is the case, the smaller hose must be hooked up to the lever that raises and lowers the 3pt some how - but if that is the case, why is it also hooked up when the backhoe is on - as the 3pt lever is never moved in that case?

2. Could I use a 1 to 2 splitter box on one of the half inch lines so that both my 3pt and the wood splitter will work? Otherwise it is going to be a pain because I will have to unhook from the splitter to raise the three point, move the tractor, then hook back up to the splitter.

P.S. The wood splitter does have its own control valve, which I presume is some sort of two way with the default center position being off.

Thanks in advance, --BC

You need one pressure and one return hose for the log splitter.

No splitter needed.

If you split the hyd flow, and you are not using the 3pt, then the fluid will flow back to tank/reservoir.

The hyd fluid has to flow through the log splitter valve and then to 3pt.

You would set the log splitter on the ground, and then you can operate the log splitter.
The third hose goes to tank/reservoir.

I know this is an old Thread, I would love to see what you did as far as 'plumbing'.
Question on the setup: As soon as the tractor is running you have Hydraulic flowing through the Center pass through valve on the Wood Splitter?
