A friend of mine has an old '70s Kubota L225DT and has a crack in the dif housing right where the 3pt hitch attaches through 2 holes. That means he can not attache the 3pt there. We noticed there were 2 similar holes just above them, a little above the PTO splines that look like you could mount the 3pt there, but then found they were just a little smaller. They are not mentioned in the manual. Can anyone shed light on what these two holes are for?

Thanks.

If you can post a picture, that would help greatly.

Have no idea what they could be for..
But you don't want to mount the 3pt arms that high on the rear end.
The lift arms are meant to pull from the lowest point below the rear, tipping would be a huge concern that high..
That's only asking for a disaster to happen.

He was not planning to mount any implement there, but wondered what it was for. The owners manual does not give any help.

Here is a photo of the back end. He has the 3pt mounted in the holes in question, just above the PTO spline, and you can see the usual 3pt holes below, with a steel rod through to help hold the repair to the crack in the housing.

Don’t know what the upper holes are for. Draft control on some models?

Agree that is not the place to attach the 3pt arms.
On the B26 is similar, has long shaft for both sides with bushings to locate the arms in the right geometry. It’s rarely that clean.

I have mixed success repairing cast metal and there are much better welders than I. Studying this product manufacturer this morning.

77 Cast Iron Welding Rod Kit 1/2 lb (3/32" diameter) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RYG2C2C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_rBq1FbAC01QYE

See some heavy steel brackets close. Might be able to fab some additional supports for the lower shaft. There are usually some unused threaded holes underneath.

That’s a tough break.
