question on what this would be called. item to prevent loader from dropping

OK, years ago i had leased a loader that had an attached, hinged device that can me manually swung down and slipped over the lifting hydraulic cylinder ram to prevent it from dropping while doing maintenance on the loader motor.

I want to make or buy a similar device for my current tractor. Now i know i could make my own, but i was sure someone already manufactures this product. I cannot for the life of me find out what its called. ive tried 100 different searches such as FEL safety device, hydraulic cylinder sleeve, etc.

absolutely no luck.

does anyone here know where i can find this device or what there called. thank you

You can buy one from a newholland that will work on a backhoe will actually do the same job they make it safety device that goes on a backhoe loader so it will not come down on you

This is what is on my Case skidsteer for cyl lock .

When you raise the bucket, you pull the lock down over the cyl rod and then you turn the engine off and are able to work under the bucket.

You can probably make one from some 1/4 or 3/8 in channel or angle and cut out for the rod, and strap it in place.

Bobcat uses the swing down style, that stores on the loader frame, on all the conventional/radius lift arm skid & track loaders. Length and width of the support bracket vary depending on cylinder size and extension length. It is called a Lift Arm Support and I tried google. The only references I found were to some old patents.

I tested a couple of these for a former employer. I forget exactly what the standard is, but from memory the cylinder stop needs to be strong enough that you can power down with it in place. This way when someone jumps in and forgets about it they don't bend the stop, which could then bend the cylinder, and possibly hurt someone. If you make your own be cautious about not contacting the rod seals.

The problem with all the std types that are used on all the industrial equipment is that the rod is what connects to the loader arm. On all of our utility tractors it is just the opposite and the cylinder mounts to the arm and the rod is the lower part of the unit. Not going to say that one can't be built, but probably a lot easier to just have a deep channel close by where you service the tractor and just install and pin it on.

I think that the manufacturers think that we should be taking the loaders off to service our equipment. After all, they are quick attach loaders, right?

Very common at the AG shows, they will have either angle or channel iron zip tied onto the ram.
