question(s) about rear wheel widths

I bought a b1700 with 400+ hours...the tractor is great and practically like new...

looking at the wheel tracks the rear wheels seem to be set in (the valve stems are on the inside) ( the center of the rear treads are in line with the INSIDE of the front tires...

the manual says the width can be changed by moving the hubs out...it looks like there is one more setting (hole) I can move them out to....the manual does not mention reversing the wheel (inside/outside)

I have read (here) than the wheels can be switched to widen the track...this would put the valve stems on the outside...is this kosher? can/should I do both?

Also...what is the best way to jack up the rear of the tractor? where should I place the jack...where should I place jack stands? is blocking up the center better than using stands?...there does not seem to be any access to the frame near the rear of the tractor to use a jack??

On my B7100 (1977) having the wheel on the tractor with the valve stems in does give me the widest track width. I am sure my tractor is older than yours and the wheels may be different. You can check the offset of the center of the wheel by laying a straight edge across the wheel and using a tape measure to deturmine which direction gives the widest track. It is very easy to adjust the hubs out also. The older B7100's have a welded hub and will sometimes become loose on the axle. I replaced the welded hubs on mine with the new style cast hubs. It was worth the $300.00 it cost to make the change. To adjust the width you need to remove the wheels. On each hub there is a pin through the axle and a clamp. Just remove the pin and use a wrench to loosen the clamp. Move the hub out to the desired position. I think my axle had 3 different holes for the pins. Install pins and tighten the clamps and you are done. As far as Jacking I usually have my backhoe on so I just use the outriggers. I would use a floor jack under the rear of the tractor to lift it if the backhoe was not installed.

The B7100 is a great little tractor!!

If you are just moving the wheels in /out or flipping them, then you shouldn't need jack stands...Really no need to get "under" the machine to adjust wheel width...
