Questions about YM226

Hello,
I was going to look at a YM 226 tractor with several implements this week and wanted to ask if anyone has a link to or general info about this model. He is asking $3000 but seems motivated to sell or trade. It starts and runs great but the owner knows little else about it. The pic looks clean and it has turf tires which I'm about to bite the bullet on anyway.
Do all YM226's have power shift? What is power shift and how can I tell if this tractor has it?
Is it a gray market tractor?
What years was it produced?
What horsepower is the engine/PTO?
Any known issues?

Thanks for any help as I'm new to Yanmar and trying to upgrade from my old and ugly 1500.

It's a US model so you have broader support. Your local Deere dealer may have been a dealer and if so, would have shop manuals etc to service it for you.

Powershift. 22 engine hp, 17.87 PTO hp @ PTO speed, 19.42 PTO hp @ max speed (per UNL test) compared to 15 PTO hp for your YM1500. And its several hundred lbs heavier. 2 wheel drive unless it is a YM226D.

Powershift is the guts of an automotive A/T but with a conventional clutch in front of the transmission instead of a torque converter. (and also a manual 3-range gearbox ahead of the A/T component). This is very handy, you move the shift lever and shift up/down while in motion without losing inertia. Claimed bulletproof and I think we've only seen rare shifting problems as a consequence of dirty transmission fluid, not from design or wear. You'll like this a lot better than a YM1500.

I think its a desirable model. If there are implements included for $3,000 and it doesn't have problems that's a great deal.

I baled hay with my 226D running a JD 14T and pulled a NH479 mower conditioner with it. Didn't have live pto or a 2 stage clutch though, so starting implements with heavy rotating inertia can be a thrill. It's a hippity hoppity bouncy little guy but a very practical machine to own. I ran my pto generator easily with it too. Nice to have a welder out in the middle of NoWhereville. Easy on and off loader was nice to have, too. You can ramp it onto a snowmobile trailer for local trips to other properties. Mazda filters.

With Powershift you can let the clutch out to get the pto implement turning, but not shift the transmission from Neutral to 1st to move forward until the implement has reached full speed. I need to do this on my little YM186D for rototilling or mowing. Does that work on the YM226D?

May I ask what size PTO generator in KWa and voltage range that you have? I am new to even needing a tractor and this is the first I have seen of PTO generators!!! I need a 120v approx. 2000 KW generator to run a few tools quite a long way from an outlet or within easy range of an extension cord or three. This is great news to this newbie and if anyone has a suggestion on where to get the best product and best deals on PTO generators, I would appreciate it.

I need a 120v approx. 2000 KW generator

2000 KW is pretty big. Several hundred horsepower in a semitrailer that may have three axles. Google photos.


I think you are in the range of 10 KW with a YM226.

Im sorry. I meant 120 vac at 2000 watt. running small power tools
