These Italian-made Muratori tillers are on a certain large auction website right now for $1,100.00 plus shipping. They are potentially attractive to me because of their ability to offset up to 4 inches... and thus cover my 68" rear track more or less with a less than 500 pound machine. To accomplish this, they shift the unit over 4 inches on the 3-point hitch and then offset the PTO driveshaft by 4 inches.

Questions for those in the know on these things (or similar):

1) Where is the slip clutch located on these units or the PTO driveshaft that comes with them? When offset a full 4 inches, will the slip clutch interfere with the PTO drive guard on my Mahindra 4110?

2) Can I expect trouble-free operation or problems running a 58"/60" tiller like this with a full 4 inches of PTO drive offset?

Any and all input on this is greatly appreciated. :)

The slip clutch is on the PTO Shaft that comes with them.

I have mine offset by 2-3 inches and have no problems. I think 4" would probably be OK. You probably won't know for sure until you hook it up. ;)

Oh yeah, on mine the slip clutch is at the tiller end so there is no interference with the PTO guard.

Hi Paul - Thanks for your input! Excellent news about the slip clutch being located at the tiller end of the PTO driveshaft. It was never clear to me if reversing position one way or the other on a driveshaft slip clutch was a good idea. Glad to know I don't have to worry about that aspect. :)

But bad news about how I won't know about the wisdom of 4 inches offset until I hook it up. Sounds like an expensive gamble. Frankly, in a practical sense, I need more like 5 or 6 inches of offset... but can probably settle for 4 inches. But I certainly wouldn't want to get stuck with any less.

Note that Muratori offers "normal" MZ4 and "offset" MZ4S. I'll try attaching their brochure, which includes possible offsets on Page 4.
