Hi Gentlemen/Ladies,
Looks like I will have to tow my 2002 PT425 from my walking trail where it quit back to my house. It's not far but I have a question about the "jumper hose" that I think I am supposed to have for towing. The hose I have has a screw-on fitting on just one end. The other end has nothing. It's fine for changing the hydro filter but I need fittings on both ends to use it as a jumper hose. Am I missing something on this? Was a proper jumper hose supposed to be supplied with the PT425? Can I get the jumper hose from Power Trac or do I need to have it made up locally?

The second question is about a replacement fuel filter. The Kohler engine manual does not mention anything about a part number for the fuel filter. What have you guys used?

The last question is about my fork lift "blades." I bent one of them somehow and now it is hard to get under stuff without tearing up the ground. I asked a welding shop about using heat to straighten the bent fork. I was told that it would weaken the steel to heat it up enough to straighten the fork. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance - Ken

Hmmm. My machine didn't come with a bypass hose. If you need one, you may have to have it made, but I would double check the tow instructions for your particular machine. You want to tow it slowly, as the recirculating oil has nowhere to dump the heat, and the variable volume pump apparently gets hot quickly. The one ended hose that you are describing sounds like the bleeder hose for changing oil filters.

If you have a bottle jack and some chains, you can probably bend the blade back pretty readily. Personally, I doubt that the metal that PT used is a high alloy steel, so heat shouldn't make a difference, but use the bottle jack- you will have more control.

All the best,

Peter

I never worried about a Kohler specific fuel filter. I think my Kohler engine uses quarter inch lines on the filter so I just get a generic inline fuel filter which accepts quarter inch hose.

I have bent forks answers for you too....

They are bent.

You're welcome.

Just kidding.

I have bent mine several times prying on tree stumps, concrete, etc....

I had to use my oxy acetylene torch with a rosebud tip to heat the bent one up and beat it back into level with the other one using a sledge hammer and ear plugs.

I had to have a new hose made for towing. I was hoping the local hydraulic shop would just add an end to the bleed hose, but they refused, saying they don't use that type of hose. So I had them make the two-ended one. I also bought some 90 degree fittings and caps to permanently put in place on the side of the pump for future use. Once the hose was installed, I used a come along to raise the FEL bucket up off the ground a few inches and held it in place with a strap to the other side of the dash. Then I was able to roll it across my lawn to my garage pretty easily by myself.

Read that thread. It's pretty detailed.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions that I may be able to answer.

Fuel filter was just a 1/4" barbed fitting on both ends. I cut the fuel line and slipped it in. Nothing special. Anything that will work on a riding mower will work on that PT. Also added a fuel shutoff valve for less than $10.

If you are not confident on bending your fork straight, call around to machine shops for someone that has a hyd press and they could straighten it, I would think it wouldn't cost much.
