The lift pins on my Woods RD7200 finish mower are on plates which raid and lower for no reason obvious to me. Any ideas as to why they're designed that way? Just curious. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the same mower. I have wondered why the mountings can go up and down also. The only thing I can think of is that it's easier to connect to the lower 3pt arms.

I had a Woods RD6000 RFM...this spring I tried to hook it up after not using it for about 8 months [grass grew very little last year] and it was hard as heck to get my lower link arms low enough to hook up.

After struggling more than I like to, getting a 4x4 for leverage and so on, I happened to lift one of those plates...imagine my surprise when hooking that side [second one, naturally] became a piece of cake... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I think RichNJKubota hit the nail on the head... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My Bush Hog finish mower was the same way; presumably for the same reasons. I would speculate that ease of connection, as mentioned by the others, is one reason. Of course, with wheels on all 4 corners, I mowed with the 3-point in the lowest (float) position, but guess if someone doesn't do that, it would still allow the mower to move up and down a bit, independently of the tractor, to follow the contours of the terrain, and no matter what the height the 3-point is set at, it allows the mower to tilt side to side a bit; something that should not happen if the pins were on a rigid mount.

Like Bird says it is for flex so mower follows contours.

Thanks, guys. That was the only think that made any sense to me. It sure doesn't make it any easier to attach with the quick hitch, though. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My boss has a 7' landpride RFM and has a quick-hitch to use but doesn't on the mower because of the moving lower links.
It is so easy to hook up w/ the floating lower links and u still have to hook up the pto.
Because of the swinging top link the quick-hitch will not let it work.
