I am getting ready to cut my food plots with my new B3030. I have a total of 10 acres to cut. They are just clover and a few weeds, tallest being 2 feet and the height of my finished cut will be around 8" to 12". My tractor has about 6 hours on it. What would be the procedure for breaking in the tractor while doing the cutting? What RPM should I use? Should I vary the RPM? Should I cut in low, medium, or high speed? I have the quick detach for the bucket. Should I take the bucket off while I do the mowing or do I need it on for counter weight? Thanks for any advice.

Steve, personallly, I'd take the front end loader off, or at least the bucket, simply for better visibility and a smoother ride, if you have very rough ground. The tractor isn't going to care one way or the other, assuming you'll be mowing with the mower wheels on the ground. And I would mow with the RPM at normal PTO speed, although I'd vary it frequently (maybe every 10 minutes or so). As for low, medium, or high range; whatever's comfortable. I'd probably be using the mid-range.

I don't know about mowers, but my bush hog cuts well at 200-300 RPM's less than PTO speed.

The consensus seems to be that the most important thing during break in is to vary the speed by 200-300 RPM every 5 or 10 minutes so you could drop the RPM's for a few minutes then kick it back up a few minutes later.

Have fun!

I am using a 5' rhino brush hog. Sorry, I didn't mention this.

Remove the FEL and med spd should be good. My L2800 pullin a little 42" BH didn't slow down through anything.

I should get a bigger BH but I only need it once a year and it don't take long to cut what I got to do in med spd.

the speed you cut at will probaly be determined more by the ground conditions( how much you want to shake around) i would cut at Med speed (or at least try it) vary your RPM abut every 10 min. or so, but i don't know if that is such a big deal anymore.
