Hi guys, someone is offering to sell a 3 point spreader for $150. It was used two years ago to spread fertilizer and was since parked without being washed off first. So there is a bit of surface rust, but all parts that are supposed to move still move.

New ones cost $400-500 dollars at least. Good used ones are $300-350 in my area. I don't expect to use it very often.

Pass or buy & clean?

Photos can be very decieiving. They often look BETTER than the subject really is in person. How dee is the rust? Any "missing metal"? If intact, but not seriusly damaged, I'd dis-assemble, sand blast or at the very least, wire wheel parts to clean metal, then apply a GOOD rust preventative primer/paint. Next time it's used, ESPECIALLY if using salt based fertilizers, wash then OIL everything liberally after use.

Parts are available (through Agri-Supply for one) to repair/replace severely wounded parts. Also, they aren't difficult to fabricate many of the parts.

I have seen worse.....unit appears to be a COSMO spreader....a wire brush and some rustoleum paint will help.... Remove the agitator extension...usually not needed unless fertilizer has clumps...causes unnecessary wear and tear on gearbox.

Parts are available from many sources...
