I've been researching the category 1 quick hitch and have a question about it. There seems to be an optional item that attaches to the quick hitch center third link area. The item is shaped like a tuning fork and people say that it makes it easier to hook up to an implement while using this "fork". I have seen several pictures of this item on the internet but none of the photos show this device in use, just photos of it installed on the quick hitch.

Can someone who owns one of these tuning fork flippy things please post a picture of it in use with an explanation of how it works? Thanks in advance!

Here is a picture on one not in use. Notice the top hook has already been removed. In use it would be flipped over and the implement top connector connected to it.

So in order to use this forking device, you have to remove the top hook of the quick hitch, flip this thing over and then insert the "handle" of the fork into the third link hookup point of the implement and use a traditional pin in it? I have a 3 point drag made by the Burch Plow Works that has a bolt holding the A-frame together only about 2" below the third link pin hole. So the device is primarily used when attempting to use the quick hitch on implements that don't have sufficient clearance between structural members for the top hook to slide under or between, correct?

I'd still like to see a picture of one being used to attach an implement to the quick hitch if somebody can snap one.

Don't have one, so no picture, but here is one slightly different that might help you visualize how it works:

I'd buy the harbor freight Quick hitch at $99 plus another $20 or so for the link, that way you will not be so dissapointed as even with the link, a lot of 3 pt stuff will not fit or if it fits, won't be quite right.

I have modified my QH so it works with all my stuff.

The purpose of the link is not to make it easier to hook up. It is to make it POSSIBLE to hook up implements which can't use the top hook for some reason.

Of the 1/2 dozen or so implements I hang off the back of my tractor, only the Box Blade can use the hook.
I use the link on everything. Just as easy.

Pat's Easy Change is another option. My Quick hitch works for me only after I did come cutting and welding so the spacing works for my older stuff. Not fitting just by a bit, means not fitting.

In either case, without have telescoping links, any QH makes attaching heavy attachments a lot easier, especially if you are doing it alone.

If you want your implement such as a brush hog to lift over obstacles or follow ground contour you need to use the floating link instead of the hook. Hired hand didn't use it one day (in a hurry and used the top hook) promptly bent the top link when he hit a big rock buried in the grass.

This is spot on. Some companies provide this with the quick hitch and they call it an "adapter". Here is a pic of it holding up a rear scraper blade. Don't forget to get some bushing sleeves for the implement pins. Cheapest I've seen come from Northern Products: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200479426_200479426

Thanks for all the replies and pictures/diagrams. I now understand that the adapter is used on implements where the upper hook won't fit as in 'arrows' picture of the back blade, and the floating top link is used on implements that need to flex during use such as a brush cutter as shown in Xfaxmans diagrams.
