Mahindra 2538 HST
I am looking at the HF Quick Hitch. (yes, I have searched the many threads) I have a 2538 with the Mahindra Box Blade and Mahindra Shredder I got in the package deal. What all do I need to adjust it to fit both of those implements? Do I need the top link adapter and do I need adapters for the bushings on the implements?

If they're new then they are probably quick-hitch ready so you shouldn't need top link adapters. If you don't put adapters on the bottom pins of the implements they will still fit but will be sloppy. The HF quick hitch has an inherent problem with the top hook being too close to the bolts that hold it. Some implements will fit and others hit the bolts. No way to know without trying.

I bought one of these hooks for mine but many other people have just modified the HF hook (see youtube).

I bought this optional upper-link part from HF, used it once, decided it wasn't needed.
I now use a loop of chain around the top of the Qhitch and around the top of the mower's front tower. That allows flex at that location as I go up & down terraces etc.

This optional 'Quick Hitch Top Hook' described by TractorNH solves the problem of the implement tower bumping the Qhitch's bolt shoulders, by spacing the hook farther out from the bolt holes.

I just did a search. 'SMA' seems to be the only supplier of this version but nobody presently stocks them. If anyone can recommend a source I'll buy one!

And here's my HF Qhitch with its native hook. With the bolt holes so close to the hook instead of to the front of the hook, most implements conflict with the bolt-hole shoulders.
This also shows the removable, adjustable pins I use in place of bolts. Sometimes mounting the hook upside down is the simplest way to hitch to an odd implement. I discussed that in this old thread.

You asked about adjusting the HF Qhitch, and sleeves for the implements.

Some people find their implements are made to a different width than the Qhitch and have to add spacers at the implement pins to make the implement wider, or, use a Farm Jack to make the Qhitch a little wider or narrower. There doesn't seem to be any adherence to the 'standard' dimensions of the original John Deere Quick Hitch.

Sleeves on the implement pins? The fit is a little sloppy without them but I don't use them, I don't put enough hours on the Qhitch to wear out the lower hooks or the easily-replaced implement pins. In commercial service, sure, but I prefer to avoid the added complexity. Also, you don't need lynch pins, clips, on the implement's pins because the Qhitch is fixed width.

I took out the two bolts and cut roll pins to length so they do not stick out

Thanks for all of the info. I’m goint to try to make this thing work. Keep the ideas coming!

I use the optional top link almost exclusively.

I also. After two years I have modified my hook but I notice that I end up having to raise and lower it enough times that I could just stay with using the adaptor. IMG_2619.JPG

By the way, can anyone tell me what that 2nd hole in the adaptor is used for? Inquiring minds want to know!
The outer hole on the "U" is self explanatory. The inner one I haven't figured out what it's supposed to be for yet after 2 years.

The Agri Supply QH comes with the top hook that extends out some. I use the top link adapter on my finish mower but I have to use a piece of chain on my brush cutter. I have modified everything else to fit the QH with the hook set in the lowest position. I cut off a couple of bolts and drilled them to hold the top hook. I stick a long cotter pin through both pin holes and give it a little bend so it won't come out and is easy to remove.

I guess I could sell my hook for,,,oh,,, say,,, $200,, FREE SHIPPING!!

I have no idea why that hook is so hard to get,,

Looks like Agri Supply also sells that hook separate.

Edit: They only show one in stock at their Greenville NC store so somebody better grab it if the inventory is correct.

Has anyone needed to extend their PTO on your shredder?

I have the similar 2540, and an HF QH. I welded up my own extended hook (with an extra row of holes) so that it will work with anything. Watch the fender extensions if you raise the thing with the top link pulled inward!

So I just got my qh. The hook seems useless. The adapter works. Both my bush hog and tiller are less than 3 years old. The top hook will not work with either of them. I put bushings on the lower pins on both implements to reduce slop.

The qh comes with a pin. It is useless. Bent after a couple hours work. Into the trash it went.

I will need a pto shaft extender. The shaft on the tiller is now just a bit short for comfort. 2-3 inches of overlap is just not enough.

I had to shave the hook of my HF QH by 1/2" or so, as well as weld on an extension to have another set of holes and to offset the hook away from the QH. An hour of work and it's a whole new ballgame.
