I've got a set of clamp on forks and have been using them quite a bit to move stuff...my question is about the backstop and the support chain. One or the other? Is there a not a way to use a backstop AND hook the chain to the keyhole or support the forks to keep the bucket from flexing?

I would think some bolt on hooks on top of your bucket might help. Then you could chain the backstop to the top of the bucket and reduce the stress on the cutting edge. The way the chain wraps around the bucket and connects back to the forks in your drawing offers very little support.

Of course, the best answer is dedicated forks instead of clamp on. IMO

I've got hooks welded on the top and have the forks supported using chain and load binders. Just wanting a way to put a backstop on too. Dedicated forks would be nice, but I wouldn't use them enough to justify the cost. Was thinking hook or loop welded to the back side of the backstop pocket, but not sure if it would actually be strong enough.

I have the spreader to keep the clamps at set distance apart and stop side to side twisting. Maybe you could use one of these to be your chain points ?

That's a great idea. Having the forks chained to hooks pretty much stops the twisting so I haven't really seen a need for the stabilizer bar - until now. Thanks!

that spreader bar does more good than you think.

you need a hook welded on back stop receiver or you could drill through the back stop and leave a bolt stick out for a chain to catch on.

If you use your forks alot you might like the dedicated forks.
For one the fixed forks wernt too much more than the clamp on ones.
It allows you to remove the bucket (mine is about 300lbs, maybe more) which gives you more lifting ability. The load is a lot closer to the tractor as well.
