How similar is the front axles and internals on a 224 compared to a 284?

If you're counting on them be universally interchangeable, don't. The 224 has been sold as tractors of two different physical sizes and weight. Some belong to the 184-204 size group, others belong to the 254-284 size group. Depends upon how it was ordered by the importer.

It can be done, but give very specific measurements to your parts source.

Hey Rusker,

That quick little question may turn out to be a long one. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I have heard on these forums that they have the same chassis, but that the difference is the size of the engine in the 224, 254, and the 284. However I have also heard that the 204 is also being sold as a 224 by some, but with different decals. Heck I don't really know for sure, but If you are serious about which is which. Then the best way that I know of is to go to a dealer that has them, and sit the 200,224,254 & 284 side by side and then compare. Look at the engine plates and copy down the engine data and the rated KW @ the specified RPM.

I think JohnS might be a good source for this type of information, as he knows these Jinma tractors inside and out, rightside up and upside down, sitting straight up on the rear end and going straight down with rear end up. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have a nice day,

To the best of my knowledge the center section/differential are the same on the entire range of 200 series tractors 184-284, however there are longer axle housings and axles on the big 224, 254/284 than on the 184,204 and "small" 224. There is a difference in drive shaft length, but his probably has more to do with engine length than chassis difference. A visit to your parts book will show the different part numbers for the different variations.
