JD 1010U
Hi there.

I recently bought a JD 1010U, and I have a couple relatively simple questions.

- Is there some kind of document or website which details the numbering schema of JD equipment?
- Would folks mostly agree that it would make more sense to buy a tractor with a front bucket rather than try and retro-fit one to an old tractor?

I thought I would be able to easily find a used front bucket, but upon further looking, and reading, it seems to me smarter to either rent a front loader when I need one, or to sell this tractor, and buy one with a bucket already attached.
Mostly, I need this for mowing. I thought to use it for moving some dirt around too. I'm not sure how useful the rear blade will be for that.

:welcome: to TBN

Presume you want the FEL (front end loader) with a bucket. .. not just looking for a bucket for an FEL.

Finding the FEL for your 1010 Utility is likely possible, but also not an easy thing to do.

Your approximate location in your profile will likely help with some additional answers to your needs.

I'm outside of Denver, and yes, I was thinking about the entire front end loader and bucket, not just a bucket.

There was a thread back in 2012 that some folks replied that the 35/36/36A/46/46A/47 loaders would likely fit.
I've tried doing some searching around the interwebz, and anything I found was pretty distant. Then, when I look at the cost to make sure the hydraulics are working right etc. It just seems that I might be better off selling this one, and buying one with a FEL.

Unless you have a sentimental attachment to the 1010, I think that would be a good move. The 1010 could be a vintage model that could be a money dump to keep it going. Good solid frame structure but not so solid in the power plant.

Well, as I noted, it might be better/cheaper to buy another tractor. Little did I know it would happen so quickly.

Yesterday, I made a verbal commitment to buy a 1963 JD 1010RU with a FEL, and a mower.
It wouldn't start, but the battery was dead, and with a jump from the truck, I could get it to turn over. According to the owner, it ran last year. I hope that means it's a relatively easy fix to get it running.

At this point, I would think it possible to get one up and running with everything I need, and then do a partial restore of the other one, and sell it and be out no more than the cost of a single tractor.

I hope. Haha
