Hey all, I will give some of my initial thoughts of my DK35se.
I will first say that my previous tractor was a Kubota B7610/LA351.

Pluses-
Loader is very strong, and quick. Bucket seems to be able to take some punishment. QA feature is nice.
2nd 3pt lift lever behind tractor. Great. Use all the time.

Hi/Lo beam headlights .....nice touch. Still mounted to low to use effectively with bucket though.
Weight of tractor is nice. Puts power to the ground nicely. Pushes brush piles, knocks over trees very nicely for a CUT.

Has proven reliable so far. Starts easily, but loud for first 3 seconds or so at startup. Must take a few seconds for the oil to work around.
Seems to have plenty of PTO HP to run my 70" snowblower. (in Med gear.....see below)

So far, it is very good on fuel. got around 12 hours on a full tank. (around 11 1/2 gallons I think)

Paint, Fit and finish is a 9 out of 10. A few small blemishes here and there, but nothing serious.
3pt seems to work well, and is strong. Easily lifts my pallets of firewood.

Negatives:
ROPS flexes and vibrates especially in lower (2) positions. Rattles unless upright and anti-rattle bolts are tightened. There are rubber mounts that rear body of tractor mounts to. This is where the flex appears to happen. I can see the body to be on rubber mounts for vibration, but the ROPS should be mounted ridgedly for safety. Looks from the design that it is designed to move a little like this. I don't get it.

My only really big issue is the power in Hi gear on the hydro. There is not much. My old Kubota B7610 could go ANYWHERE on my hilly property in Hi. It could stop an practically any hill and continue on where it left off. Not so with the DK35se. It struggles to go up my paved driveway with no load. I realize it's a much heavier tractor with larger tires, but it almost needs a 4 speed tranny, with the current Hi as a "travel" gear. It's a little disappointing when the RPM are always dropping from just driving the tractor around. Or when I stop on a hill, the tractor will not go, need to shift into Med. The tranny doesn't whine too much, the RPMs just drop. Needs to be on flat land to use Hi effectively. (my rear R4s are loaded with Rimguard)

That being said, Medium has PLENTY of power. Will haul the DK ANYWHERE on my property without breaking a sweat......albeit a little slow. (I think Med maxes out at 5-6 mph) Will snowblow (70" Pronovost Lynx 3pt blower) uphill easily without bogging down. It works so well in fact that I have not had the need to use Low yet, including digging out a couple stumps/rocks. Again, it's just a little to slow for some things, such as bringing a load of gravel or firewood up the driveway. Seems like a near 40hp machine should be able to do that at more than 5-6 mph uphill.

But as a whole, I am happy with the DK35se. I would give it an 7 out of 10. For a flatlander (no insult intended), it would be a 9. I know the DK40se has a little more HP, but also weighs more. Would seem like a wash to me.

A "little" more is correct. 3 to be precise. The DK35se has 38 and the DK40se has 41. I'd imagine the hp/lb is about the same but you have smaller rear tires which should be an advantage in hill climbing I'd think.

I tend to use middle gear on my DK40se when in fields which is where most of my hills are so haven't had any issue. I do drive on roads up hills in high and have never noticed any problem though as I reach the hills after being up at near top speed maybe I just have the momentum to help. Never tried starting up a long hill from fully stopped in high. Also, I still have not gotten around to installing liquid ballast in my tires so your tractor is pulling more weight up hill than mine.

I saw the exact same thing posted in the Bobcat forum. The guy was not happy at all. Then he came back happy as a kid in a candy store and said Rick Wallace had fixed him up. Didn't say what the fix was.

I have no idea what this could have been that could have possibly been a simple fix.

It is very concerning though since I have been planning on getting a Kioti.

Take a look. Maybe you can communicate with him. The thread was "How many Hours" in the Bobcat forum and the poster was tinman955.

I sometimes have the same problem with my DK45se hst in high gear and even medium. BUT, it's my fault in that I have so much trouble running the RPM's high enough to get maximum efficiency. I tend to run the RPM's in the 1800 range unless using a PTO implement that requires true 540 speeds. By doing this, you will have a big loss in RPM in any range unless you run it at a higher speed.

Run the hydros as 2000 rpm minimum. It allows the charge pump in the HST to properly feed the hydro circuit. Running at low RPMs, even new, isn't the best thing for a hydro. You will notice a difference.

The reason I have so much trouble running at high RPM's is my dad's and grandpa's fault. When I was a kid, waayyyy back in the late 50's and 60's, they taught me to drive in a 1950 Chevy pickup with 3 speed on the column. I was taught to start in 1st and as soon as the truck started rolling, shift to 3rd gear with a lot of bucking and jumping. Second gear was not used unless going up a hill or pulling a load. So for me, it's a mental block I guess. Oh how times have changed. :)

I start out at 2600 rpms of so, but by time on on top of the hill, it's down to 1800. And that's with playing with the pedal a bit as I feel the engine lug down. In order to keep the RPMs where they were originally set, I'm barely moving. I'd be better off in Med.

Curious about the "fix" Wallace had for the Bobcat. Would certainly improve the experience a lot.

Times haven't changed in that respect, that was bad advice from the start.

I'll bet he uses second gear or he replaces a lot of clutches.
