Quick-Tach, Fast-Tach, Skid Steer - Same Thing?

I'm buying my second tractor and it will come with a quick disconnect type bucket. The FEL is a John Deere 542.

My question is: How many different mounting systems are there for FEL? I'll be shopping for a grapple bucket, pallet forks, etc. How do I know they will fit the JD 542 quick disconnect design?

The Deere 542 uses a Deere-exculsive quick attach system on the front of the loader. It is simple-to-use and a good design, but it will not be skid steer compatible.

There are adapters available on the market to enable the Deere 542 to use skid steer attachments. A TBN-advertiser, ATI Corporation, makes one. Skid steer attachments are more plentiful, easily rented, and offer a wider variety of attachments to accomplish various jobs.

However, many of these skid steer attachments are hydraulically-powered. This presents a problem if your tractor's hydraulic output is not sufficient. The Deere tractor that you are considering will probably have a marginal amount of power for attachments like brooms, earth augers, or other attachments requiring higher oil flow...but fine for grapples and a four-in-bucket.

Thanks for the information. I've learned a ton by staying up late at night reading this forum.

As for buying FEL attachments, I think I'll go with the JD proprietary mounting system as it won't require a skid-steer converter.

Okay, I've done some more research and I'll probably need an adapter to use skid steer attachments with my JD mounting system. I've looked around, but havne't found just the adaptor for sale anywhere.

Someone please point me in the right direction.
