a direct drive, 3450 rpm compressor is always going to be louder than an 800 rpm belt drive compressor.. the noise comes from the air intake btw, and surely, you can add a muffler on the intake though..
Got it today and used it to put up some trim. Right on time! I love it. I got an app on my phone that measures decibels and measured the new one at 58-60 dB and the old one at 68-70 db. I also measured my 80 gal 2-stage in the shop and that was also around 68-70. It seems to me that the old PC portable is louder, but maybe they are closer than I thought. This one ran for a couple minutes to charge up and then every 5-7 shots from a trim nailer it would cycle again for 20-30 sec. perfect size for trim work. Quiet and light. I'm happy!:dance1:
