R4 60\"mmm hitting

Well I finally got around to moving my tires out to their widest possible position. I also adjusted the MMM linkage so it will raise high enough to put the pins in so I can use the 3pt without the mower going up and down. Arggggg, The R4's hit the mmm when it is in the full up position. It hits the left rear wheel bracket. I hope it's just my choice of tires because I can't believe Kubota missed this!! Now I need to decide which is more important, a wider stance or not having to take the mover off.

Could this be an adjustment issue? Perhaps your mower deck raises up to high? Of course, on the BX the tires bounce agaisnt the MMM deck on rough terrain unless the deck is lowered to the "Park" or stowed position which is slightly lower than full up. Advantage BX /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif --just kidding--I bet you could adjust a stop to prevent the deck from raising so high thus providing greater clearence--good luck. J

I actually raised it higher on purpose so I could use the pins that come with the tractor to suspend the mmm deck in its full up position. If I put it any lower I can't use the pins which allow the 3 pt to move while the deck hangs. I was looking at it though and I can't believe how easy the mower comes off. I think I've still got memories of garden tractors of old lying out in the sub zero garage switching from mmm to snow plow./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Jeff,
You can only spread the tires such that there are 2 + 1/2 holes exposed in the hub of the rear tires without interference with the R4's. The "right" rear deck wheel will rub on the tire as you found out. If you want the wheels spread further for other than mowing then take that rear mower wheels off (two bolts and one pin) and you won't have any interference with the deck pinned full up.

Yeah, I have them currently in the second hole in from the outside. Though the owners manual doesn't show four holes on the axle, I think to put them in the outermost hole you have to turn the hubs around. I think I will move them in one hole just to make it more versatile. I can't take the rear left corner wheel off the mower though as it is hitting the welded on bracket that the wheel shaft pushes up into and not the wheel itself. I'm pretty sure the tires weren't hitting the wheel that is bolted on.

Oh, yeah! I haven't taken my mmm off yet but hear its easy,

but I taking the yard mans off is crap, and putting the snowblower on is torture. (yard man junk)

I've had the same problem with my B2410 with the R4's in the outermost position. I'm not willing to give up any lateral stability by moving the wheels in. Furthermore, no matter how I adjust things, I can't lift the mower high enough to easily engage the pins that hold the mower up. It isn't too hard to pry the mower into the right position with a 4x4, and then when the mower hangs, the back right mower wheel doesn't bump into my rear tire.

It isn't really a solution, but I've decided to keep the wheels spread out and I just don't raise the mower quite to the highest possible point. I think Kubota could have designed things better.

Okay, did everybody hear the Ahhhhhhh coming from South Carolina. It occured to me after reading your response Al that while I did adjust the mower so it would raise enough to put the pins in, I had never actually tried them./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif The mower when moved all the way up sits with the rear of the deck slightly higher. What I failed to understand was that when the deck was lowered to hang from the pins that the rear would droop. This droop now gives me about 1/4 inch clearance between my R4's and the deck. I will however have to remember when driving with anything on the raised 3pt that I can't bring it up ALL the way. I will also get to leave my tires at their furthest out position too! Thanks for jogging my mind a bit!!!/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif Oh, and by the way....my clevis pins went in with no problem and had no trouble getting the hairpins on the ends./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
