This is my first post, so please bear with me, if I over or under do it. ---Been waiting for the new JD 2032R (very similar to JD 2720) to become available and now they are. Am considering one with the H-130 FEL, 72" MMM, front snow blade and rear ballast box. I would like the R4 tires, but here is my dilemma. I am attempting to replace all the equipment (JD 777, JD 318, IH560 listed in my profile) with one machine. I have a 1.5 acre irrigated and manicured primary lawn and mow another 15 acre rough lawn about once a month (I have been doing this all with the 777 zero turn). I want the R4 tires for loader work on the 2032R around the house and in the woods, cutting fire wood, etc. I am afraid the bar type tires will turf my primary lawn. I know the turf tires would be a lot easier on my primary lawn, but would not be ideal for the other work I mention above. I have thought about turf tires for the lawn and then putting chains on if needed for more traction in the woods and doing loader work. I have also considered the R4 tires on the new rig and then buying another small mower for the primary lawn work, but that defeats my goal of having only one machine. Anybody out there mowing their primary lawn with a rig like the 2032 with R4's? - If yes, are you satisfied with the finished lawn look (i.e. is there any turfing or tire tracks visible)? Your observations and recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks much, Stanrav

Welcome!

Get the R4's, and keep the 777 for mowing is my advice.

My Kubota B3300SU is very close in size/weight/horsepower to a JD2720. Kubota has R4s.

I run over the irrigated Saint Augustine lawn bordering my driveway with tractor and mounted implements 2-4 times per week with no issues. Saint Augustine turf is supposed to be somewhat delicate.

In Florida the soil has excellent drainage; never have mud.

I have R-4 on a 4310 that I mow with. The only time I leave marks is turning when the dirt is very soft. If I slow down more or mow a few rounds to get out of the ditches, no marks. R-4's are perfect for me.

I'm happy with my R4s. However if it gets particularly wet I'll leave tracks AND they will dig in if you're doing a very tight turn or turning the tyres whilst stopped. Changing direction while moving is easier on the ground.

I've got my eye on a 3PH ballast-roller to flatten this winters tracks as it's been very wet as of late.

I had turfs on my 855 with a 60" MMM for 12 years. Now I have the R4's on my 2520 with a 72 MMM for a little over a year now. I don't notice any difference from one tire to another while mowing. With a 72" mmm I've found you won't be making near as tight turns as you would with a smaller deck.

i have R4 on my JD 3720 with a mid mount mower and it has not bother my lawn. The R4 are then great for loader work or tilling etc. Good luck

You really need to keep the zero turn for the lawn and use the tractor for the rest. I do not like R-4s, not enough traction in the woods here when wet.

My experience with R3s on the 4010 and now R4s on the 1025 is that the R3s will likely tear up your lawn more because they grip better on turns. These R4s in front slip too much on turns but they don't mess up the grass then. R4s have more grip straight ahead.

My problem too with sandy soil..
