Well, I bit the bullet and bought a new "R" series Montana over the holidays. I believe that my wife is just as excited as I am.
In my work, I design and test prototype automotive parts for a major corperation. I am very picky when it comes to spending alot of money. My wife calls me ****, although I don't believe it is for this reason.:D
We studied and compared (3) major brands - Kubota, Massey, and Mahindra - against the Montana R4344. We fell in love with the Kubota Grand L40 series and the Montana "R" series. It came down to specs vs. price and the Montana came home with us. Montana beat Kubota on everything (right down to a dual element air filter vs. a single) except durability. Kubota is a proven company that has a reputation for quality. I believe from what I've studied and what little time I have spent on my tractor, that Montana will be recognized in the same class in just a few short years. All they need is seat time.
Anyway, back to the new toy.
So far I am very pleased with my decision. We are still in the break in period but I can already tell that this tractor is going to be light years ahead of my others (Massey MF165 and an 8N).
I will continue to update my likes and dislikes regularly.

Congratulations, hope it's a good tractor for you. Now it's time for some pictures!! We looked at the Montana at Ag Progress Days in State College, Pa. this summer, they looked sturdy and well built.

Congratulations on joining the Montana family! I absolutely love my R4944HST and seem to keep finding new uses for it. I've only got about 15 hours on mine, but all of those have been wonderful, fun, and productive. Enjoy your new toy...um...I mean tool! :D

I have 280 HRS. on my 2006 4940c with no problems. I love this tractor. I have a hard time keeping my JD and NH friends off it. I had the seat cover in leather and XM radio installed, life is good in the other green tractor now. I hope you enjoy your Montana tractor as much as I do mine.

A beautiful tractor - congratulations. I agree with you - Montana's are likely to have a very good reputation given the time.

Just curious - how did the price compare to the Kubota?

Well, the Kubota was the 39hp version of the new Grand L40's. It had every option known to man (minus cab). It also had hydrostat. I am more of a clutch and gear - meat and taters kinda guy, so the hydro didn't really matter to me. Lowest prices from both dealers - Montana and Kubota- was about $4000.00. Like I said before, spec for spec, Montana beat 'em.
I put a couple more hrs. on mine this weekend and have a couple of questions for some of ya.
1.) Does the low fuel light work on these things? I was dragging my road and noticed my gauge was on WALK! Still no light.
2.) My front end loader seems to be about 2" lower on the right side when the bucket touches the ground. I tried this on my shop floor to verify also.

The book doesn't list a low fuel light. If it is the gas pump shaped symbol, it is shown as a fuel filter humidity warning lamp.

As far as the loader bucket, remember that the bucket level is in relation to the rear tires, not the front as the front axle pivots. If you are sure the floor is level in that large of an area, I would start with the basics like tire pressure. There is some play in the bolt holes on the loader mounts and it could be that the mounts need loosened up and shifted a bit.

I'd check the tires and if they aren't WAY out on pressure, mention the bucket problem to your dealer.
