R4344 - tool box

howdy y'all,

i have a R4344 - FEL, 6' bush hog and 6' box blade.

as some of may know this series tractor did not come with a toolbox and i would like to carry a few hand tool to adjust stuff and a rag to check fluids and what not... my dealer has been very good and helpful but could offer no suggestions for this.

i am currently using the tube that the manual was housed in. it is made of thick plastic with a screw-off cap. it it not big enough to hold a wrench and pliers.

does anyone have any creative but durable suggestion that will work and not look too "amateur engineered" )

Most home depot type stores carry a heavy canvas type bag (a tool purse?)
it wouldn't work in wet weather, but perhaps it would wedge itself nicely between the seat and fender.

I am not familiar enough with the R4344 to even begin to suggest where you could bolt up a small toolbox and after looking at pics on the net I really don't see an obvious place. You could possibly take a piece of 4" sch 40 PVC, put caps on both ends, paint it green and attach it w/ large hose clamps or zip ties to the the loader frame (by the floor board) or to the ROPS behind the seat ???

BTW, I think you have one of the sharpest tractors around. I am a BIG Mitsubishi fan and have owned a 28 HP 4 cylinder Mits before. They are the smoothest motors around and very dependable.....I have always thought that when I upgraded I would look for a Ford 1920 but I think I have changed my mind and will be looking at a Montana first.

I have the 4344 HST. It doesn't use the controls to the left of the driver seat. I think it's for shifting a multi speed PTO and something else. Anyway, I unbolted it and there's a large hole in the body; probably for whatever controls ran up into there. I found a tupperware container that fit right in. That's my water proof box. Then I went to K-Mart where, for $14 I bought a canvase bag complete with 6 basic tools. Not high quality but still plenty good enough for the little emergencies that might come up while you are out on the back 40. The space is about 7"wide by 7" tall by 16" deep and the bag fit great. I'll try and take some photos and post them up.

BTW, this tractor is a working fool!! Wow can it move things!! I'll post some photos of that too!!!

i looked at that area next to the range selector. i may fabricate a locking steel box to fit that space.

the 4344 is a dude when it comes to getting work done - i am WAY impressed with its capabilities.

i like your bucket claws... i may have to get a set of those.

i agree - i looked hard and long at the New Holland TC 45, the Kubota L4400 and the JD. the Montana blew them all away by features, power and price. i also enjoyed DRIVING the montana more than the others.

i am as green as the tractor when it comes to experience in this stuff but i learn quick and did my research - the montana is tough to not consider.

I just saw a similar discussion on the attachments forum.

Great pics of an ammo box used as a tool box mounted on a ROPs. At least the ROPs is good for a tool box mount and light mounts. I may keep mine.
