Terrible storms last night, 4 1/2 inches of rain over night. We had to rescue a nest of gozlings last night. One of them drowned before we got to them. All schools are closed do to the storm. The whole county actually has been shutdown. They are telling people to stay home (but not me durn it) as there are trees and power lines down everywhere. Hey Bird, I really wished I could send you some of this rain. It started raining again and it looks like maybe another storm. Well thats all folks (I hope).

Me, too. However, thunder and lightning woke me up about 11:30 last night and I see this morning that I got just a little over a quarter of an inch of rain. I don't think that'll close very many of those big cracks in this dried up clay./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif But I was glad to get even that much.

And a neighbor has told me about spraying his garden twice already for grasshoppers even though I hadn't seen any yet this year. So yesterday I was back there and he has thousands of tiny grasshoppers all over the place, and his garden is less than 300 yards from mine. So I checked my garden pretty closely and only found one grasshopper. Sure seems weird, but I guess I'll have a plague of them again before long.

Dozer, my sister called last night from Auburn, South of Springfield. Her husband had been out all day helping people with flooded basements, including thier own a bit. Many roads flooded there as well.

I just checked the weather for them and it looks like you guys are still getting quite a bit of rain. Better put some pontoons under your tractor /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

They say that when it hits here, it's suppose to turn into that white stuff. Just what I need in the middle of May.

We've had over 3" in the last 36 hours. My roof starting leaking this morning, just couldn't take it anymore I guess. Covered it with plastic sheeting and now all I can do is hope it doesn't get too windy and dries off soon so I can glob some roofing repair goop on it. Haven't mowed yet without slopping in mud and standing water. Grass needs mowing again, but it's just have to wait. Still haven't got the garden in because it's nothing but mud. I recently bought some new implements, but haven't had a chance to use them. I've had to alter my route to work because the roads are flooded. Is this getting monotonous yet?

It finally quit raining and my guage shows 5 inches. A lot of roads are under water, but the main highways are pretty much dry now. Some parts got 7 inches of rain. The county to the west had several people stranded that had to be rescued by boat. The last storm killed one, but I have not heard of any deaths from this one yet. One note of humor in a bleak situation. Those gozlings we rescued last night are doing fine, once we got them dry and under a heat lamp. One of them is a funny looking goose. It is a peacock chick! The old peacock hen must have slipped in there before the old goose started incubating. It is fine and healthy. Its starting to look like Ma and Pa Kettles farm around here. Bird, I will trade you some mosquitos for those grasshoppers!

I can relate, we're trying to build a house, its rained 28 days out of the last 60 /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif. I would love to send some of this rain to the Rockies to douse their fires!

I can relate too - we dug the foundation for a new shop at least 4 weeks ago. Everytime it stops looking like a swimming pool, it rains again.

At least I don't live in tropical storm territory anymore - in 1979, tropical storm Claudette dropped 42" in 24 hours 2 miles outside of Alvin, TX. Nope, that isn't a typo - see One Hundred Years of Southeat Texas Weather, item 6

I lived about another 8 miles from it on Clear Creek. I managed to sleep through the whole thing, get up the next morning, hopped in the car and turned left out of the subdivision as normal. I stopped, befuddled by the lake in front of me and then looked behind me to see another lake. My little subdivision was about the only one that didn't flood.

Dozer,We also caught 4-5" out of the same storm system, did'nt have the wind or hail, but too much rain.

Areas to North and East of us had 8" or better, yes that is EIGHT INCHES of rain.

Hope we don't see too many more of these storms this Season.
