At 30' long, 20" wide and 14" high, at $1.36 a sq. ft. it sounds about right.
txdon, maybe it was just a typo, but just in case you misread the article on Noble Foundation Horticulture Site, those beds are 40" wide (3'-4"), not 20". The cost per square foot would nearly double if you made them only 20" wide. The 40" width seems to be a nice compromise between the 3' width and the 4' width. Some previous posters have said that the 4' width made it difficult to reach the middle.

TedLaRue, thanks for catching that 20" typo, I don't know where that came from. I was thinking 40" wide, hmmm that's just 4" wider than my garden that will work.

I need to redo my raised beds now that I have a wider mower. If anyone builds with this design please post. Thanks.

For gardening organic vegetables using landscape timbers or railroad ties is questionable because of the chemicals they are treated with.

That thought had crossed my mind also. I had some seasoned pressure treated lumber on hand that I used to build my boxes. I lined the box walls with a heavy black plastic leaving the bottom open for drainage.
