The LX4 on my 4010 won't raise more than about 1" above its set position after the top link, etc. is adjusted to get it at the proper tilt. When the dealer delivered it, he could raise it quite high, but he had the top link shortened extremely to get it off the ramp from the trailer.

Am I missing something? Why won't the trail wheel raise off the ground? It raises just enough to take up the slack in the trail wheel movement that's allowed by the slot behind the top link. The trail wheel stays mostly on the ground.

Yes, I've monkeyed with the speed-of-raising-lowering valve. If it's too far closed, the draft links won't drop easily. They will raise without anything on them, unless the valve is almost closed.

The instructions tell you to place 4x4s under the sides when storing it. It will lift maybe high enough for a 2x4.

do the lower links rise all the way? Just the aft end (tail wheel) of the cutter near the ground?
If that's the case, your top link is extended too far out.
You'll want it extended during use to allow it to follow the ground.
During transport, you'll want the uppr link pretty short to get the cutter all the way up.

Now, a caveat...if you're just moving the cutter a short distance, let the tail wheel bear some of the weight. Easier on the tractor... If you're transporting across pavement, then lift it all the way.

One position doesn't fit all needs. You've got to get off the tractor and make adjustments now n' then (unless you have a hydraulic upper link).

A pic would help, if you can get one in the raised position from the side, as well as in the 'run' position.

I don't quite know what you mean by the "set" position. That position should be set by the three point lift lever (I think that you have position control on your tractor). If no position control, then the chains to hold the front of the deck up are the way to go.

The tail wheel adjusts the cut of the rear of the deck, and the lift arms adjust the height of the cut on the front of the deck. Some like to have carrying chains to hold the front of the deck at a 'lowest' position.

Your top link is adjusted to be just short enough to keep the front of the deck from contacting the PTO shaft (no longer). The shorter it is, the more the rear of the deck will raise.

Now, check that the lift pins mounted on the frame of the rotary cutter are in the lowest holes. Mine was delivered for a bigger tractor, and limited the lift because these pins were in the upper holes. A pic will help show us what adjustment you might make to make it work right.

I disconnected the top link and got the links to raise the LX4 to maximum height of the draft bars. This lifts the skids a little over 3 1/2" off the concrete floor.

Only way to lift the tail wheel is to shorten the top link. The dealer guy had it shortened this way when he delivered it, to allow it to back down the trailer ramp.
