Cord, first thing you need to do is verify everything I've been told...as it is second hand information, but I believe the information was from a Deere contact I made a few years ago, and it all seemed credible and logical at the time. I have since heard it again and I think it was here on TBN.
Behind the oil filter is a large nut approximately 1 1/8" or the metric equivalent. On the opposite side of the nut and machined nipple are two flats machined to hold a 13mm end wrench; once the large nut (which acts as a lock nut) is loosened, the nipple is free to thread in either direction...in or out. This whole assembly is part of the cast aluminum timing cover including two oil passage ways seated to the block via "O" rings on each oil galley. I don't know how much, how far or which direction, but threading the nipple in a certain direction opens more to the pressure side galley and simultaneously restricts the oil return galley......(I think)
Here's a picture of the case cover, oil passages to the block and the machined flats inside the cover. Good Luck,
Mark
