What has been the best option to add a stand of some sorts to hold the rake front up when it is off the tractor? Sure would make hooking it up easier.

Was in the same boat, one day years ago and had enough so I took a few minutes and made this. It is not pretty and don't laugh, it works really well and I used material I had laying around even the homemade T-handle bolt. Just loosen the T-handle bolt and the pipe-stand slides right to the ground, tighten the T-handle bolt disconnect the 3PH and off you go. After hookup, loosen the T-bolt and pull up on the pipe-stand, tighten T-bolt and off you go. Fast and simple.

I'm not a welder so I just use a jackstand. I use the other one on a rear blade. JC

I use a cinder block.

Nothing for nothing but my stand goes wherever and anywhere the rake goes, totally and instantly adjustable for ground contours.
BTW, My wife just pointed out the bent pipe, yes I went to drive off once with the rake attached and the stand in the down position. I made the stand, I'm getting older and I can do those things.:D

That's a great stand gizmo...hope you don't mind but I think I am gonna make a bolt on version of your design. I can weld a little but I don't have a welder.

I am starting to think that having a mig or tig is a "have to have kind" of thing for the farm.

If you have reversible gauge wheels you could mount the wheels in front of the rake. Jay

Good ideas, I was going to look for a jack stand to see if I could adapt it. I also thought about one of those old ratchet car jacks.

I don't have gauge wheels.

Those "feet" are the reason I learned to weld....along with bucket hooks. I still havent gotten around to making the impliment feet yet though

I picked up a trailer jack that pivots to bolt on my rake. HF special of course. Works great on my Land Pride rake plus swings up well out of the way.

You're right that propping up the rake front end makes it easier to hook up. I tried various things and then just settled for a block of 6x6 cut to size.
Then I found that for my York rake, if I put the scarfer down and parked on level ground, it would be level.

This is a stand I made for my york rake several years ago. Very simple, two short pieces of pipe and some misc parts. It works very well.

Thanks Gizmo ! I did some maintenance on my old rake this year and give it a fresh coat of paint too. :) The stand is the same basic idea as yours. They sure work good in keeping the rake in position for another 3pth hookup.

Charlie,

I'm not sure if this is the best option or not, but here is how I built a stand for the rake I am currently building from scratch.:

Thanks Bob,

I took a closer look at your rake, Do I see a drop down blade attached in there somewhere? how does that work out? seems like that would be real handy. DId you add that and the gauge wheels? Your addon stand is very solid, nice rake.

The drop down blade is an option on all york rakes and came with my rake ( 25 yrs ago ) when i bought it. The blade is Very handy. Its not " beefy " enough to dig ditches but for something like crowning up a roadway it works real well. A blade also adds alot of weight to a rake and makes it more stable ( in My opinion ) The gauge wheels came with my rake too.
