1988 Case IH 245 (compact)
Hi all! I recently purchased a new to me compact tractor, a 1988 Case IH 245. I am in the process of trying to add rear remotes for a backhoe attachment. My plan is to use the pressure line that feeds the front end loader to feed a new valve block at the back and then run a hose from it's power beyond up to the loader(the loader valve body has no power beyond port). I am going to tee the return line from the new rear valve into the loader return line where it enters the auxiliary adaptor.

My question is about a hydraulic hose that comes out of the top of the lift cover, near top of the cover. It comes out of the cover and then hangs down to the bottom of the tractor on the right hand side and has a female quick connect fitting on it. I don't know if it was used to feed an attachment that used to connect to the center pto or what it was for. I am new to hydraulics and thought that any line that was a pressure line would need a return line too, but I see no return line anywhere.

I will try to attach a couple of photos. They are not the best pics, I had the camera stuck up under the tractor to try and see where the line came from.

Hard to tell but I would go as far as saying that's your return to tank line/quick connect and the loader is not connected correctly on the tractor and therefore is feeding the 3 pt using the Tank port of the loader valve which a big no no.

That's just a theory though.

Hi ptsg, thanks for the reply.

The loader pressure and tank lines are connected to a hydraulic adaptor plate.

The adaptor plate is installed between the relief valve and the lift lid, which is where it should be according to the service manual.

I cannot find any info about how the lines should be connected to the adaptor plate though.
The pressure line comes off the bottom of the adaptor plate.

The tank/return line goes into the back side of the plate.

I thought I saw a diagram on the internet somewhere once that showed the plumbing for the adaptor plate and I thought it showed the pressure line coming out of the adaptor plate just above where the return line goes into the plate where you see the plug as shown in the above picture., but I cant find that picture again.
If I was sure that the plugged port on the adaptor plate was a pressure outlet I would connect my backhoe to it.

Could I get a pressure gauge and connect it to the plugged port to determine if that is a pressure or return port? and could I also connect it to the line that is hanging down to tell if it is pressure or return?

I hope this isnt too confusing
