Raptor 700 oil check

The wife let me purchase a Yamaha Raptor 700R and have been having fun with it so far. I asked the dealer how to check the oil and they said to wait five minutes after shutdown to check it. I unscrewed the dipstick and oil came out of the hole like it was overfilled. When I check the oil cold it is right on the full mark. This unit has an external oil tank where the dipstick is located. Thanks for any help.

Anybody with a sport quad on this site? I'm still not sure when to check the oil on the Yamaha. The external oil tank throws me for a loop.
