I had a Great Dane once that was **** on Rats. He liked to crunch them. He'd frequently pull at the tractor casing if one had been inside.

Well I tried some of the .22 shotshell ammo. The results weren't good. Two rats shot, two rats ran away. I'm going to go back to the .22LR, which stops them cold.

.22 mags work much better (if of course you have a .22 mag weapon). I favor the CCI 22 mag shotshells, they work on rats and the occasional -- bad -- snake.

I'd like to see the explanation behind that one...

That sentence should be like this: Americans and guns is not good at all! All of you has to stop to own guns and that things now!

moa-berg,
It's OK for us to be different here, than where you are from. We really appreciate the differences and privledges we have in the USA and hope you feel the same where you live.

Back on topic,
Once the weather gets better, we're going to move the bird shed and re-do the fence around it. We'll get more aggressive on the rat control after the birds are relocated.

One less rat than there was 5 minutes ago. My old Remington model 514 single shot .22 has been a good one. Its simple, reliable and fairly accurate.

My dad had a single shot (bolt gun) Remington. Was a nice .22, and accurate as the shooter was. Decimated the local ground hog population with it back in the 70's.

I once heard of a "bathtub suicide chamber" for rats. A plank was balanced on one end of a partially filled bathtub end was greased and baited so it still barely balanced. The first rat runs to the bait-whoosh into the tub and the plank tips out of reach. The rat squeels and thrashes about-attracting more curious rats-whoosh they go into the water ad infinitum.
Not sure if it works-but it made a great story told over a cool beer on a hot afternoon.
