I do some side work for a man that is into several different businesses. One of which was a mulching/clearing business. Long story short, the fellow that he trusted to run the mulching business wasn't to be trusted and there was a parting of the ways between the two. After a lot of searching, we were able to locate the missing mulchers and repo them. The owner doesn't want to continue in the mulching business and is selling the machines. I am considering purchasing the Rayco c87fm from him and running for side money. I have a fairly large poultry operation and my help handles most of those responsibilities, giving me a good amount of time to spend on other things. We put new chains, sprockets and rollers on it, battery, starter and side window that was broken out. It cranks quickly and has 1400 hours on it. He replaced the engine about 400 hours ago and says the engine compartment is too smalland caused it to overheat. I believe the overheating was due to lack of preventative maintenance. I can probably get it for about 35k, winch and all. Thoughts?

One question, does it have a head on it? That little machine would be great for what you are trying to accomplish. Low intial investment and fairly low orerating cost. I would however call Rayco and see what you can found out about the machine. They should have pretty good records on the machine. I'm not sure which machine's did or did not come equiped, but if your machine does not have the aux cooling above the engine compartment you need to add it. Yes it is expensive but it will be the difference between it making you money or having extended maintenance (cleanout) time and possible overheating issue's. A customer of mine had a 87L with cooling package and I would take that machine over a skid any day. The customer actually regrets selling it, one operator with two machine's, one had to go so he kept the 130.
Good luck.

If it has the air cooled Deutz engine don't do it. If it has a Duetz engine at all don't do it. Those engines cannot hack it. If you see a rayco 87 or a fecon 90 that runs it will have a yanmar in it.

It does have the Rayco head on it but does not have the aux cooling unit. Not sure which engine is in it, will look tomorrow and find out for sure. Thanks.

Yes they had some problems with the enigine's, but if I recall it was a bad batch of sensor's or something. Call the factory and just ask them and ask them why most for sale have newer engine's. They will explain it and will give you the fact.

I don't know if it was ONLY the sensor's. A mulcher near me had one and he went through a couple engines, one was supposed to be the updated one.

If you can get it for the right price, it may be worth it.

I believe the problem with the Deutz engine was melting #1 piston. If you can get it cheap enough allow to do an engine change straight up other wise it will bite you in the bum.Yanmar or Kubota are a good option. The Rayco C100's run Kubota's and from all acounts are a better machine than the C140.
Good luck

Doesn't sound bad, but I would check around. I know a guy that picked up a rayco 130 at auction for $40K last month. Had a FEA head and less than 1500 hours.

New guy here, occasional lurker, former mulching contractor Bellville,TX area.My mulcher (Rowmec conversion from old tractor) burned up last year after a hose burst near the exhaust manifold.I'm in the market again and after listening and listening some more I like the red ones (Fecon) and Green ones(Gyrotrac) The green ones may not have parts available until bankruptcy is completed.Rayco appears to be the same as Fecon so yellow is ok too.I would like to spend from 40k to 60k A red one is on the ground at the Ritchie Bros. auction but came in as 'stationery" which I think means for parts or not running. It looks ok but has a lot of recent welding and no winch. It was partially disassembled and the hydraulic head tilt cylinders had been welded in the closed position.Tracks are shiny like it just came off a job.I would appreciate the advice of those of you who have some. Thanks a bunch.John Ogden--jogden7777@yahoo.com

I would be very curious as to what deutz motor it was and its setup.. Engines shouldn't have problems like that in just a few hours.. Must be problems with their cooling setup or airflow problems.. Find the specs on which motor it is
