I have a ~2006ish RC100 and it needs some hydraulic oil.

This machine is not used for commercial applications, just around a farm, so it hasn't been rode too hard. If this matters. Around 450 hours.

I'm running an FAE mulching head on it.

Anyway, the manual specs out Chevron Rykon Premium MV. Well, they don't call it that anymore. I contacted Chevron and it was renamed to Rando HD Premium Oil MV: http://www.alexisoil.com/sites/default/files/277314-rando-hd-prem-oil-mv-pds.pdf

While I was trying to track some down, harder than it sounds, I told my dad to check with the relatively local ASV/Everything dealer [Mainly New Holland] and he comes back with Ambra Multi G 134 New Holland-Ambra Multi-G 134 Fluid

I kinda blew a gasket, on a personal level, because he paid more than what I was pricing the Chevron for and it seems that the Ambra oil is not even spec'd out correctly. The Chevron oil sounds a lot more geared for heavy use, what I want. It may just be marketing. The main reason why I didn't like the Ambra was because it has a "New Holland" badge of honor and I never trust a brand that is sold my the company that makes it. They were probably pushing it because they are a dealer, naturally.

Keep in mind that this is our first and only skid steer, purchased used in great shape, so I want to get this hydraulic oil thing right.

The New Holland guy, some kid, tells him that they put that in all of the Bobcats and ASVs that they service.

So, I gotta ask, do I tell him to send it back, or is it as good as the Chevron oil?

If it's not as good as the Chevron oil, what oil can I readily get that will keep this costly machine running its best for years to come?

I don't believe in cheaping out on oil. Never have. If the Ambra Multi G 134 is equal to the Rando, then I'll use it but I just have my doubts. I look at Ambra's website and they even have a premium, heavy duty, oil but it wasn't even offered to my dad. So this irritates me as well.

Considering what these machines and attachments cost, and the fact that we are making $0 using it, I don't think I am being too cautious.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks for the help.

You did bring something up that I was going to mention. Oil mixing.

Due to the low hours on the machine, we assume it has the factory oil in it.

I know assumptions are bad but I seriously doubt the previous owner did an oil change at 250 hours.

I hadn't planned on doing a full dump and refill because there was a small leak and we lost a few gallons. So this would be oil mixing.

Now the dangerous question. Can we mix the factory ASV oil with the Ambra?

Google found me this interesting article: Managing the Risk of Mixing Lubricating Oils

Lubricants made with synthetic base stocks should not be mixed with products made with mineral oil, even if they are designed for the same application.

I know that the Chevron oil is mineral oil and I assume the Ambra is, if I remember the MSDS correctly.

So, other than diluting out some of the factory oil properties, it should be ok to add a few gallons of Ambra, right?

the ambra looks comparable to hy-tran. you have a 5-20 which is more viscous and is what your components mfg. (pump etc.) recommend. try united oil, american, or daiken. not saying the ambra won't work but it isn't the viscosity recommended.
