Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

....in addition to the complaint about not having a cup-holder on my JD 4100, I cannot for the life of me understand why they do not put a step on the these tractors, like the one on the 4210, 4310, etc. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif This would be a very inexpensive "feature" that would make life easier. Even at my height (6 feet tall), it is a higher step up than most pickups to get on the deck. Also, I am surprised that one of the talented welders (not me, that's for sure) has not fabricated a step for the 4100, 4110, 4115 tractors. Maybe this will get somebody thinkin' about it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

I hope they do come up with one. I'm 5'8" and I about split my crotch when I step up on my 4110. Of course at 74 years old that hasn't caused me any problems!

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

Just some steel and some bolts will get you a step.

No need for a welder. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Or just upgrade to the 3320, as it has a step. Nice tractor too. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

I just park the 4115 next to a decent sized rock. That way I dont have to split my pants (btw, I'm about 5'8" also). At least this way, I get some use out of all the rocks on this side hill /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Come on garchib, southern N.H.?...The Granite State? Just strategically place a bunch of those granite slabs around the property and save on the metal for the step /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh ya, the cupholder. With that I agree. This is a serious drawback...hot coffee in the winter and cool, ah, "beverage" in the summer...What were they thinking? !!!

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

It's probably due to less ground clearance on these smaller machines. That's something you should think about before installing one.

You should be able to buy the step...it's just four bolts attaching it.

And since I'm about 5'9"...I do appreciate having it on my 790.

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

I don't have a problem with splitting my pants because I don't wear pants when getting onto my 4010. Don't have a problem getting on, but I do need to use the steering wheel to help me up. A step would help when hoisting a 5 gallon diesel container onto the hood.

I strap a 1 gallon container to one of the towers supporting the FEL with 2 tension cords. A little drink holder wouldn't be enough or would have to be pretty deep to keep limbs and things from knocking it off. I've had my 1 gallon container knocked off the FEL tower. Almost ran over it once.

Ralph, Those Kilt sure are usefull he? LOL /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use the steering also to help help me get on but I don't think I'd like to add a step, the clearance would probably be an issue...

As for fuelling, I whish JD would have put the tank somewere lower... around the rear fenders maybe... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Geez, Ralph. Tell us you wear shorts, or a kilt, or something! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

None. I wear steel toes, safety glasses, ear plugs and usually a sweat band in warm weather.

I vote for the tank down lower, too. They could have easily put 2 small tanks underneath the fender wells. I've thought about that 30 # of fuel full up so high. Would add to stability to have it sit lower.

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

I moved my seatbelt clip and added a JD cupholder, which has worked great. I don't think clearance with a 790 step installed on a 4100/4110/4115 would be an issue. The step would still be higher than the front / rear axle, which are more likely to hang you up. What may be an issue would be catching the step on a branch or something....but you have that problem on any tractor with a step. Anybody up for installing this ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

forget the step boys. when I caught mine on a stump, bent it all out of shape, including the floor panel and left fender (all connected) I was wishing mine (5105) didn't have a step. and I hve more ground clearance than a 4100. cost me around $200.00 in parts to fix it. You don't need a step. Install a grab bar/handrail/grip on your fender or something.

Thanks for the advice.....the 4100 has grab bars / handles but they don't seem to be very well-placed.

Re: 4100 / 4110 / 4115 - why is there no foot-step

The grab handle should have been placed to each side of the instrument panel. They should have put them there and given us drink holders like on the 2210 in place of where they put the grab handle.
