Re-Assemble the dash panel - tilt steering

4610 compact. Had to replace the power steering and can not re-assembly the dash assembly - because either I am a moron, or this is the most poorly designed thing I've worked on. Anybody have any ideas? I have tried EVERYTHING and am about ready to start breaking things. The unit has two hoops that appear to hook over two ears, and then uses leverage to pull up on the spring loaded bushing. But I can not get it back together to save my life. I have tried with it ( the steering rod) full front, full rear, middle, but same problem

I don't have the 4610 on my tech manual, only the smaller 4210, 4310, and 4410.

But when looking up the dash assembly for another thread on the 4410, I recall seeing the procedure for putting the steering column and tilt lock back together. It involved a couple of springs and using a rubber band to hold the little springs in place.
Does that sound similar to what you are seeing?
If so, I will gladly post some pics and procedure of the 4410 so you can check it out.

Glad to hear you are back in business. That was pretty darn quick.

Now that you have some experience in there, do you have any wisdom to add to this other thread, where the problem seemed to be the tilt steering column wouldn't lock in place?

Seeing as now you have been on the "inside" so-to-speak, assuming the smaller compact is similar to the bigger one that you have.
