Re: Intro and buying

Hello,

I have been visiting TBN for 12 months or so, I have finally registered! I appreciate all the great advice and I hope for a little more.

I'm totally sold on the L3400 HST. I am close (3 months) to saving all the money I need to purchase said rig. I went to a dealer's open house today and tried to get an idea about prices (about 17.5K). That's with FEL, front hook, heater and delivery. (I wasn't impressed with the price!) I kind of thought I would have to chisel the guy down, wheel and deal, get extras thrown in, etc. I HATE wheeling and dealing...I always feel like I'm getting the shaft, I never feel good. All I want is a fair price. We have three dealers close by...ugg!

I have family in PA and can use a large equipment trailer to go pretty much anywhere this summer to snag the tractor. I was thinking of just emailing/faxing all the dealers from here (Maine) to Penna..."Give me your best price-I'll send the Cashier's Check and pick it up tomorrow". What are your thoughts?

And thanks again for the wonderful site/info.

Re: Intro and buying

You can certainly do that. Some dealers may fax you a price and some probably won't. Some buyers have bought tractors a long ways from home, but most of us like to do business with a dealer reasonably close for any service, maintenance, warranty work, and/or future implement/accessory purchases. Your choice. Personally, before buying my first Kubota, I visited 4 Kubota dealers from 25 to 75 miles from my home, looking at what they had in inventory, asking questions, and just visiting. I don't care for the "wheeling and dealing" myself, so when I was ready to buy, I simply called each of those 4, without telling any of them I was calling the others, told them exactly what I wanted, and asked what was the best deal they could make me. The one I bought from was 50 miles from home, but gave me the best price.

Re: Intro and buying

Hello
I also looked at many tractors before deciding on the L3400HST. I test drove an L2800HST and that is actually what sold me. I decided for the extra horsepower of the 3400. First I went to my local dealer and got a quote. It was on the high side. I have bought other products there and they said to find my best deal and come back. So I started driving to dealers as far as 150 miles from home. Got the best quote I could from each of them and then went to my local dealer with all my info. I now have the tractor on order. None out here yet. My price I paid was $17,150 for the tractor loader with R4 tires, Landpride PD15 auger with 9" bit for $825.00, Landpride 60" box scraper for $549.00, Bearcat chipper for $2500.00, Trac Top sunshade for $500.00 and a free drawbar for the 3pt. Delivery is free also. Grand total with tax is $23332.02. It was the best I could do and a long way from where we started. I live in WA state and Kubota,s seem higher out here than some of the numbers I have seen posted on other tractors. I would suggest you get at least 4 quotes and tell them to sharpen there pencils. They all have room to move and I am sure there are better deals than I got out there but I did the best I could and I also do not like to haggle but this is a big ticket item. Good luck, Brian

Re: Intro and buying

Smelt,

I was at the open house today also! I stopped by there to pick up a couple of 1" hitch pins... Forgot there was an open house. If you saw a 100 + lb Boxer, I was with him!

I know what you mean about the dealers up here. I don't want to trash any of them online but if you would like to PM me I would gladly give you my opinion. I ended up buying a used tractor from out of state because of the way I was treated by the local dealers. And I think I ended up with a great deal to boot!
