RE: oil everywhere

Purchased new RTV-X1120D May 2016. June 2016 took unit on a 5 hour ride around county roads local to my home. Returned to find interior of engine compartment covered with oil. Dropped unit with dealer next day. One week later dealer called to let me know there was nothing wrong with unit. I got a free power wash out of the trip. Fast forward one year, same basic trip with same result. This time the dealer had unit for one month. Returned unit to me (power washed) and claimed nothing is wrong. Oil appears to be coming from trans output shaft to front axle. Driveshaft spline interface extremely sloppy at output shaft with inherent vibration especially in 2wd. Oil not coming from vent. Help! Dealer is obviously not interested in customer service considering I spent 60 grand on equipment at his business. Now I have an expensive toy I really hesitate to use outside the sight of my house. Anyone out there ever experience similar problem? Would sure appreciate your input before I just bite the bullet financially on this situation.

Re: oil everywhere

Welcome to TBN & the forum. I'd be taking it to a different dealer for service or calling the regional service rep.

Re: oil everywhere

Did you voice your displeasure to the dealer/owner? Surprised how many people don't but complain to others. If you did, I would contact area Kubota Rep.

Re: oil everywhere

Actually did avail myself of the suggestion of a different dealer. They did respond but only to say service department never heard of my problem. I really am seeking help here, not someplace to complain. Yelling really loud did not fix the issue.

Re: oil everywhere

How mechanical are you?
Remove the FWD shaft to the front axle. Check the Trans Output Shaft for 'play' in the bearing and movement fore/aft. Check the oil seal.

Drive the machine in 4WD and 2WD with NO FWD shaft installed and check for oil leakage.

Check the UJ's on the FWD shaft.

How sloppy is the spline joint? Is this the 'slip-joint' for the whole shaft? If so, it will have some 'play' but it's new-ish so should be acceptably loose.

Does this Trans O/p seal leak at any other time?

How 'hard' are you driving the RTV on this annual country road trip? You get any oil leakage between the two events?

Loud yelling never seems to progress matters imo.

Re: oil everywhere

Sad, but yelling works, just no profanity! More and more, I find that Mr. Nice Guy Get's nothing except BS!

Become an A-Hole, you get what you want. Recently, not only did I get something I was initially told I couldn't have, but it was shipped for free. I never feel good about it, but I get what I figure is fair. And I always ask myself, why do they force me to be an A-Hole?

Re: oil everywhere

Have worked 55 years on and about all sorts and sizes of equipment to include rebuilding the machine tools used to produce the parts which comprise same. Perhaps you have missed the point here which is that should I work on this problem myself, then warranties are out the window. This RTV was delivered with a defect and I still feel it should be addressed by Kubota. I suspect the problem is with global parts supplied by other than Kubota, in this case the driveshaft.
It may have been poorly machined, damaged when assembled or the U-joints could be out of phase. Most all-Japan made products generally are well made but some products from other Asian-manufacture not so much so.

Re: oil everywhere

Post a video here of on YouTube of the "sloppy driveshaft movement". I'd want to know if it's a trans case flaw, a seal flaw, a prop shaft defect, a u joint issue, excess oil fill, etc. Then you will get some sound advice.

I didn't miss any point. You described symptoms and dealer response and asked for "help". Nowhere did you you say you were highly mechanically competent and were some sort of 'plant engineer'. You asked for 'help' after describing terrain and sloppy parts and after dealer rejected any fault.

I asked questions to further determine possible causes of oil loss.

But hey...Never mind... Good luck. It's a warranty issue. Yell louder.
