Soon I will be adding power steering to my Yanmar YM2310 tractor. So I will be needing 2 or 3 hoses made up. Or I can make them up my self using the re-usable type fittings. The fittings for 1/2 hose are about 35 bucks for two. I'm thinking I could buy hose, cut it to length, and screw on the fittings. Or I can have the local place make up hoses. Or I can take a ferry to the mainland and find a place to do them. The reason I might consider a ferry trip is because the local place to me has a bad track record for making me hoses. Fully 1/2 of the hoses they have made up for me have been too short or have failed. And every hose failure somehow manages to soak me with hydraulic oil. Are there pitfalls using re-usable fittings? Even though I have used them in the past and have not had any fail I don't have that much experience with them.

What you want is https://www.discounthydraulichose.com You can pick your fittings and order it to length down to the inch. Good hoses and crimps from what I've gotten so far.

If you can make do with standard lengths, SurplusCenter.com has very affordable pre-made hoses in 12" increments.

as long as the Reusable fittings are made for the hose you select they will work fine.

What you want is Discount Hydraulic Hose | Your Online Hydraulic Shop You can pick your fittings and order it to length down to the inch. Good hoses and crimps from what I've gotten so far.

I bought a few hoses from Discount hydraulics online for my thumb installation on my excavator. Two of the 3/4 inch hoses bought from them, started leaking out the crimp fittings within a year of purchase. I buy from my local hyd. shop now.
I used reusable fittings on new thumb hard lines also and they work great.
Years ago, I used to build reusable AN (JIC) fitting hoses all the time when I worked in general aviation. Very easy with the right hoses.

I have a few old cranes here. Two F800 Ford truck cranes and a Pettibone 30 rough terrain. The truck I use the most works fine, but all the outer rubber on the hoses is gone. All reusable fittings JIC. Guess I'll get a spool of hose and have me a little ongoing project. Petitions has bad looking hoses too but it all works. The engine is gone and sold. I want to update it. It did have a Hercules gas but I want a more modern engine and an auto transmission. I have seen it done. I have the other engine and transmission.

The reusable ends are typically more expensive than crimp on ends. But as long as they are made for the hose you are using (there are different hydraulic hoses like R2, R16, R17, etc) they work just fine and the hose will fail before the fitting
