Re Usable Hydraulic fitting

I'm working on a Hydraulic lift on a F350 dump. The pressure up line has a crimped on swivel that is leaking bad. I Tried to replace the whole line but it's frozen onto the cylinder side. I found 2 reusable 3/8 fittings. I was gunna cut the bad swivel off and put the RU fitting on it. The RU fittings came from a rubber coated line I had around. The line on the truck looks like a cloth covered line like you'd get made today. They are both 3/8. My question is will these RU fittings work on both types of lines or just the ones with the rubber outside?

I've been told at the hyd shop that rep. screw on fittings have to match the hose. (same manufacturer and for the correct hose type.) That being said, I would at least make sure the od of the hose was the same.

You should use the same manufacturer for the fitting and the hose.

Although it might work, you are taking a chance by mixing brands.

Well the hose is on a 1989 truck, the fittings are from a 70's JD backhoe. There is no way of telling what I have. I was just trying to figure out if the reusable fittings can be used on the rubber coated HD lines and the new style ones with the wrapped outside. I know if I try to replace the hole line it's gunna break in the cylinder end. There is no $$ in this job and I just want to get it out of my hair.

In my experience, the brand matters not as much as the SAE specification.

For example, we have field-attachable fittings for several SAE specifications, including 100R1AT, SAE 100R2AT, and SAE 100R5. Each fitting, though, is only appropriate for use with ONE of those specifications. They are NOT interchangeable.

If you try to put an SAE 100R2AT fitting on a SAE 100R5 or SAE 100R16 hose, you're going to have problems. The construction of each hose is unique, and if the fitting wasn't designed for that hose, it won't fit properly. It may look normal on the surface, but if you aren't getting the right amount of compression then you probably won't see the problem until the hose is under pressure and it starts leaking, or worse, blows off the end of the hose.

You are most likely describing two entirely different kinds of hose. If they meet standard SAE specifications, I'm sure the specifications for one are completely different from the specifications for the other. There is almost no way that a single re-usable hose fitting would work with both of them.

If you don't know what kind of fittings you have, you don't really know what kind of hose to buy. You're better off replacing the hose AND the fittings, unless you can identify the fittings and then purchase the correct hose for which they are designed.
