I am currently evaluating several tractors and have several questions. I live in AZ (no grass mowing) on 5 acres and want to use it to maintain my horse corrals with the following primary tasks: completly mucking out the stalls (2-3 times a year), moving hay / bag's of pellets, maintaing a dirt road and grading an arena. The secondary task I want to do is move gravel, rip rap, sand and dirt. I am looking at the Kubota 7510 or the John Deere 2210. I like the John Deere's form factor for getting into the stalls but was wondering how it does on the secondary tasks such as moving rip rap? For what I described is the 2210 a good tractor choice?

Also why is the 2210 compared against the Kubota BX 2230? It seems that as far as HP and PTO go it is better compared against the Kubota B7410 or the Kubota B7510. Am I missing something?

Theres more to compare than just HP. The Deere 2210 is a subCUT. basicly, the wheels are smaller. The same holds true for the Kubota BX line. To compare with the Kubota B line, tou need to be looking at the Deere 4010/4110/4115.

SubCUTs are usually considered great mowing machines, with good accessories like loader and 3 point atachments. Since you have no mowing, I think you would be better served by a CUT, with better loader and 32 point capabilities.

Also, watch out comparing subCUT and CUT Hp ratings. Since the subs are primarily mowing machines, the Hp rating is tated at a higher rpm. In other words, they have higher numbers in Hp than a similarly equpped CUT, because there is a diiferent yardstick...

For example, both the 4110 and 32210 use the same engine (Yanmar 3TNE74):

Nobody's overstating specs. They are just picking different points on the power curve. Tractor functions (loader work, blading) are usually torque related and low end power is what is important, while mowing is usually related to power at the pto speed. This is almost always at higher rpm and lower hp.

I didn't need mowing either; so, I went with the JD 4010. Looked at the JD 2210, too. It has what I like to call an "inching" gizmo to set the height of the MMM. This is missing on the 4010.

The 4010 is also missing the drink holder but has cruise control that the 2210 doesn't have.

I got mine with FEL and LX4 bush hog and recently outfitted an old 2" solid bar, 7 tine soil ripper from a 1951 JD M to its 3 pt hitch. These all work fine. I had to locate the hitch pins on the LX4 to the lowest setting, as the dealer set them wrong according to the book. The LX4 wouldn't lift because the top link was longer than the draft arms. With the hitch pin in the lower positions this kicked the top link location much closer and resulted in no problem lifting the bush hog. I use it now with a chain for the top link, which gives the ultimate in flexibility, more like that of the bush hog on the front of my Gravely.

Don't see why road maintenance wouldn't be a problem with a BB. You probably need another joy stick installed to provide the hydraulics for the BB, unless you use a manual-set one. I'd check with the dealer whether the 2nd joy stick (or some form or rear hydro) is available on the small frame tractors.

Don't think something like the soil ripper would work on the 2210, with it being 4 to 5" closer to the ground. Have a friend who bought a 2210 and asked him what his lift height is on his draft arms. He didn't know. The 4010's is 24" and 860 # out there. (By comparison, the x595's lift is only 450#.)
