What service was it in for?
When changing one of my truck's air filters a couple of years ago, I found a mouse had packed the air box full of chewed up cloth fibers. It was a hard packed colorful blob of fiber, sucked up tight against the filter, made mostly from a bag of clothes waiting to go to Good Will that was in the garage. When I opened the box I still remember the sick feeling that came over me. Luckily the mouse didn't perforate the filter so a quick cleaning was all that was needed. I check my filters regularly so I know it was built in little time. I now check more often because more can be wrong than a typical dirty filter like is shown in this thread.
BTW, I had noticed my mpgs were down by a few before cleaning, but thought it was typical winter fuel/weather issues. They jumped right back up after cleaning the box. I also checked the air filter in my wife's car at the same time and it was about 1/4 full too. I now have 3 baited mouse traps in my garage at all times.![]()
****, they dont get much more dirty than that. I love pulling original plugs out of cars, gapped burned to .100" and they wonder why we need to start replacing coils.
My local Chevrolet Dealer sent me a coupon for oil change and 27 point inspection with tire rotation for $19.95.
I decided to take in the 91 Silverado because it was due..
The tech was very thorough checking all the fluids and such and mentioned I had a mouse nest in the air-cleaner assembly???
Sure enough, there was a nest and I was more surprised than he was... the filter was not in the best of shape and he asked if it was OK to replace... and I said sure.
Anyway, he goes to the parts counter at this 100 year old dealership and comes back saying they would have to special order the filter... they don't stock it and neither do the two closest dealers?
A stock 91 Silverado with a 350 should be as common as they get... used in many different configurations for many years...
I guess I really am getting old...
