I noticed there was not a lot of info on this site about this engine but there were a good many questions. I spent this weekend in a F150 long bed, 2wd XL, 3.5TT with the towing package (3.55 gears I believe) pulling 10,000lbs on average in a gooseneck stock trailer hauling calves to the sale barn. The heaviest load was 10,912 and the lightest was the last trip at 9,037. I wasn't supposed to use this truck for this but the one-ton went down so we had no choice. The owner had a gooseneck put in just to move empty trailers around his farms.
The truck moved the load o.k. I have to say I was actually impressed and how well it moved it from a dead stop and once we got to highway speed (60mph max) it handled it fine. Gas mileage on the first few trips, with the heaviest loads, average 7.8mpg. On the second run, most loads in the 9400-9800 range, we averaged 8.8mpg. The turbos stayed spooled most of the time moving this load. The truck did not squat much, actually less than my 06 F250 4x4 diesel I used last year. We put about 300 miles on the truck hauling these loads. Though I do not recommend pulling this load on a regular basis as it may cause premature wear, for the occasional pull it did well. Just thought you guys might want a little real world input on this motor. I'll post some pics this evening after work.

Sounds about right, as I routinely have an 8,000 lb+ BP trailer behind my 05 Ram. 4.7 v8, 4:10 gears and manual trans. I average about 9 mpg or so. Pulls fine and stops great thanks to the large electric brakes-12x2.5 on all 4 wheels of the trailer. Heaviest ever was when we scrapped our 74 IHC 1700 dump- 23,500 across the scale. Sounds like the new Ford motor is up for the challenge, just hope it can keep oil temps down in the long run, is there an oil temp gauge?

Thanks for the numbers. Its about what I thought it would be. My dad bought a FX4 Super Crew with the 3.5 TT with 3.73 gears in May. Its 4x4 and loaded to the gills. He just turned over 5,000 miles last month and no towing to date.

He has average about 17 mpg since new. I drove it on a 13 mile round trip to go eat and averaged 18.3 with very little stop and go and in a steady state at 63ish mph it was getting about 26 mpg with 3 large guys in it.

Not sure about the gauge. I will be in it again soon and will check.
