7500 HST - Kubota
I could use a reality check. I am currently on 2.25 acres with trees, hills, mud and a huge garden. I am considering a Kubota 7500 dt or hst. My "financial advisor" (wife) strongly feels that a bx2200 is all that we need. Could she be right? Ground clearance is a key and ability to continue to provide service when we move into our larger property. Target uses are mow, till, scape/plow and haul trees/firewood.

If ground clearance is an important factor, then the B7500 has a definite edge. From what it sounds like, either machine will do the job where you are right now. If you will be moving into a larger property, you would be wise to look towards what you will need then, not now. Even though the tractors hold their value well, having to "trade-up" at a later date can still be costly. You will likely lose a few thousand dollars on a trade. If you factor that into the equation, spending a few thousand more right now could save you a few thousand down the road.

Is a B7500 enough for the larger property you will be moving to?

I would look at how much of the time will be spent "on turf" vs "off turf" the bx will most likely be better for "on turf" the 7500 for field work. Regardless of the machine you chose go with the Hydro. you will be much better off with a bx hydro than 7500 gear.
Just my opinion...

I have 3.5 acres and a B7500 HST and wouldn't want anything less. Is your 2+ acres all lawn? If yes, then I could see the BX being more suitable.

I have 2.24 acres and I started out with a New Holland TC21D. But with the side hills that I have I did not feel safe with it at all and ended taking mine back in and traded for a TC29D. Now maybe my 29 is too large for my lot but with the sidehills I do feel a lot more comfortable. I think your B7500 would be a good match for you.

You said ground clearance is the key however, you also mentioned moving to a larger property. The B-7500 will give you clearance and allow you to handle jobs in the future on a larger property.

Your wife is right. You should not get a tractor that is bigger than your lot.

Get the most tractor you can afford and the most tractor you can convince your financial advisor to allow you to get.
P.S. Flowers may help! Kevin

I've been thinking a little about the relationship of size of property to size of tractor. The reality is, the size of the property doesn't matter at all. More important is what you need to do with the tractor. I just finished dropping 12 - 40+ year old alder trees, bucked them up, split and stacked them on pallet boards and now I am getting ready to dig up the stumps. All of this activity is taking place in about 4,000 square feet. During this time I used my BH and needed every bit of the power it had. My B7500 will just barely lift a full pallet of firewood when it is dry. In fact, when I fill them green, I have to fill my loader bucket with a load and use a hydraulic jack to just get it off the ground. I will need everything the B7500 has to give to get those stumps out. So, the B7500 is a perfect fit for me. I wanted the smallest footprint with adequate power to do the projects I had planned. I saw in another post where SethO has 30 acres and a BX2200 is perfect for him. Case in point. You need to analyze what you want to do, rather than how big your property is. Hope this helps.
