Rear Axle Noise

My L 3710 with many, many hours, has recently developed a "thump" in the left rear wheel axle area. This sound is heard as the wheel rotates, forward or backward, in gear or in neutral just rolling along. Sometimes it sounds like a "thump" and sometimes it sounds like a "bang". It occurs only in the left rear axle area. What can it be?

Did you check your wheel bolts. May be a loose wheel.

If it isn't loose wheel bolts, it may help isolate it to lift that side with a floor jack and just turn the wheel with the trans in neutral (engine off). See if you can get the noise to repeat itself. If it is a broken roller in the bearing, there may be a rough spot you can feel as the wheel turns.

The description of it sometimes sounding like a bang is a tip-off to a possible failure of a "hard part" - like a broken bearing roller or gear tooth in the final drive. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hello,
Have you checked to see if the hub is loose on the shaft. My kubota a B6200 did the same thing about 8 years ago. Mine has a adjusting bolt to take up the slop as the hub wears from torque from the shaft. Yours may be the same. Good Luck!
